On Saturday, U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks), who also serves as the ranking Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, released a statement on the 20th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terror attacks.
Rogers warned that despite the lapse of time, the threat of terrorism is still present.
Statement as follows:
The terror attacks on September 11th, 2001 rocked our nation and the world. We will never forget the images of heroic first responders rushing into the Twin Towers and Pentagon. 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 New York City police officers, and 37 Port Authority officers never made it home that day.“Scores of selfless men and women joined our armed services as a direct result of the September 11th attacks. They stood up when the country asked for their service, and many gave their lives. I, and our country, are indebted to all who have donned our nation’s uniform.
Since that day, we have asked our troops to take the fight to our enemies to prevent another attack on the homeland. They have fulfilled every task asked of them with the professionalism, determination, and skill we demand of our military. Over 7,000 service members have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our democracy since 9/11 – a painful reminder that our freedoms are not free.
20 years later, the threat we face from terrorism hasn’t disappeared – it’s a battle that our service members continue to fight around the clock, and they will win.
