U.S. Rep. Rogers: ‘Really pleased’ SCOTUS took action; Three-judge panel ruling on congressional districts ‘incredibly irresponsible’

On Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) commended the U.S. Supreme Court for the action it took, rejecting a three-federal judge panel that sought to have the Alabama Legislature immediately redraw congressional districts.

Rogers criticized the lower court ruling for the timing, which came days before the political parties’ closed qualifying.

“I’m just really pleased to see them step in and take this action,” Rogers said. “I thought it was incredibly irresponsible for a three-judge panel to intervene in the 11th hour as they did and sow such discord into what was going on in Alabama.”

“If they thought there was merit to the litigation, they should have let it play out for the next cycle rather than trying to disrupt things right before qualifying ended,” he continued. “It was a great sign. I hope that it is something they do across the country with these other lawsuits that are happening all across the country.”
