U.S. Rep. Carl: ‘Jimmy Carter is probably sitting on the edge of his bed cheering today because finally there’s a president worse than Jimmy Carter’

As conditions on the ground in and around Kabul continue to deteriorate, there continues to be a tremendous amount of uncertainty for Americans and those that allied with U.S. forces still on the ground in Afghanistan.

U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) has been involved with the Afghanistan situation on multiple levels, as a private citizen and as a member of Congress.

During an interview with Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5’s “Midday Mobile,” the representative for Alabama’s first congressional district urged prompt action to get a handle on the situation.

“We had so many young folks to die over there, and sweat and blood — I’m never going to call it a failure,” Carl said. “This particular act, we’ve got some real problems, real problems — and it is going to last us a long time into the future. But right now, we need to be focused on how to fix what’s happening now. It’s very simple: We’ve got to get our folks out of there. When I say our folks — I’m talking about the interpreters and their families. We’ve got to hold that airstrip. We’ve got to build corridors where we can get them in and out of there.”

Carl talked about working with one man his office was attempting to get out of harm’s way in Afghanistan and said there were a number of Taliban checkpoints he was having to cross through to get to the airport.

He was also very critical of President Joe Biden’s handling of the situation to date.

“It’s just crazy,” he continued. “What the president has done here will go down — I know Jimmy Carter is probably sitting on the edge of his bed cheering today because finally there’s a president worse than Jimmy Carter. This is just mind-blowing, the decisions this man has made, mind-blowing.”

Later in the interview, an emotional Carl discussed how one of the Afghani interpreters helped his son survive while in Afghanistan.

“Those people are responsible for my son coming home in one piece,” he added.
