U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) has made national headlines in recent days with his vow to challenge the results of the Electoral College vote from certain states when Congress meets in a joint session on January 6.
The effort would require one member of the U.S. House and one member of the U.S. Senate to succeed.
State Rep. Andrew Sorrell (R-Muscle Shoals) is urging his colleagues to make a formal show of support by offering a letter endorsing Brooks’ effort and encouraging members of the Alabama congressional delegation to participate.
During an appearance on Mobile radio’s FM Talk 106.5’s “The Jeff Poor Show,” Sorrell explained how he arrived at his decision to promote the idea.
“So let me tell you where this started for me — I’m knocking on doors over here in Georgia, and people are literally saying, ‘Why should we go vote? The Democrats are just going to steal it anyway.’ And I got to thinking — the Democrats’ plan is working here. They have successfully de-motivated the Republicans over here in Georgia. And 68% of Republicans now feel the election was stolen. And I don’t feel like there’s been enough of an investigation done. And we’ve all seen Congressman Brooks come out, a little over a week ago and say, ‘Hey listen, I am willing to stand up for election integrity and the President of the United States, and I am going to protest this Electoral College certification on January 6 in a joint session of Congress.”
“Now, Congressman Brooks is still looking for a Senator to stand up,” Sorrell continued. “It will take one member of the House and one member of the Senate to object before they go into the separate chambers and deliberate. I want our two senators in Alabama and the other representatives in Alabama who have not signed on to this effort to know that we support them. So what I’ve done is I’ve drafted a letter of support, a very strong letter of support — and I’m asking all of my fellow colleagues in the Alabama House and Alabama Senate to sign onto this letter, and basically saying ‘If you do this, we have your back. We stand with President Donald Trump and Congressman Mo Brooks.’”
Please share this important post! Today I drafted a letter of support for Congressman Mo Brooks’ effort to not certify…

So far, Sorrell has one co-signee, State Rep. Tommy Hanes (R-Bryant), who had offered his own vote of confidence in Brooks’ effort earlier in the week.
However, he encouraged listeners to lobby their members of the Alabama Legislature to participate.
“[A]ll the people listening out there, urge your state legislator to sign on to my effort,” Sorrell added. “They will be receiving an email in less than 24 hours. They’re going to be able to read this letter for themselves, and hopefully, they will choose to sign on.”
