Lindy Blanchard: If President Trump were president, Putin’s invasion of Ukraine ‘wouldn’t be happening’

Although she is running for governor of Alabama, Lindy Blanchard does have a background in the geopolitics of Eastern Europe by virtue of having served as U.S. ambassador to Slovenia during the Trump administration.

During Tuesday’s broadcast of Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5’s “The Jeff Poor Show,” Blanchard said had former President Donald Trump still been president, we would not see Russia under the leadership of Vladimir Putin act so aggressively toward Ukraine.

“Number one — we all know if President Trump were president, this wouldn’t be happening because I was able to see things and events in Russia in real-time happening during my tenure as ambassador,” she said. “And they did not cross his line. We had troops on the line the whole time. It was a small amount, but as they set in, they didn’t move. So, with this new president and his weakness, and especially after Afghanistan, everyone is reaping the benefits of his weakness, and I mean like China, and certainly Russia right now.”

Blanchard blamed a perception of weakness under the leadership of President Joe Biden and said she anticipated Putin to continue his incursion into Eastern Europe.

“Well, I don’t think it is unexpected,” Blanchard said. “They have been since Biden trying to pull everything to the border anyway — a lot more manpower and a lot more machinery. That’s concerning. Someone asked me a week ago about that. I just assumed it was going to happen, and it has to do with our weak leadership, and I do believe they are going to keep on advancing.”

“You have to remember — you can’t have a discussion with someone like Putin,” she added. “He formerly led the KGB. That’s someone you don’t have a discussion with. I found it unusually funny that Biden thought he was going to discuss things with him and the team. So, I think it is going to happen.”
