Late Monday, Gov. Kay Ivey released the official proclamation calling the legislature into a special session on October 28 at 4 p.m. to address reapportionment.
Also included in the Governor’s call was language to deal with “appropriations for pandemic-related healthcare service.”
However, any language pertaining to President Joe Biden’s federal vaccine mandate was not included in the Governor’s call. Earlier in the day, Ivey issued an executive order that downplayed using state law as a possible way to address the alleged government overreach.
“[A] state law in response to President Biden is not enough,” Ivey’s executive order said. “The courts are where this will be resolved.”
The legislature could override the parameters of Ivey’s call with a two-thirds supermajority vote, but that appears to be a long-shot possibility at this point.
