Blanchard campaign doubles down — Says Mo Brooks took money from ‘woke’ corporations, Big Tech, RINOs

On Wednesday, a couple of days removed from GOP U.S. Senate hopeful former U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia Lynda Blanchard’s claim her opponent U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) was “courting” campaign donations from so-called RINO Republicans and “hardcore progressives promoting the woke, cancel culture movement,” Blanchard doubled down on the claim with a YouTube video.

Brooks had outright denied allegations of accepting contributions from corporations, which he explained would be illegal, during an appearance on Huntsville radio’s “WVNN Afternoons with Yaffee” later that day.

In the 90-second spot, Blanchard alleged Brooks was incorrect about denial, noted his contributions to Trump critic Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), and referenced his 2016 opposition to then-candidate Donald Trump, who Brooks eventually came to support.

In a statement accompanying the video, Blanchard once again called on Brooks to return the money.

“It’s bad enough that Mo Brooks is accepting money and making handshake deals with some of the most liberal corporations and Big Tech firms in business today, but lying about it just compounds the offense,” Blanchard said.  “It’s time for Mo to fess up, admit he took the money, apologize for lying, and return every dime of the liberal loot.”

The back-and-forth between the two candidates is not something that is typical at such an early stage in an election cycle. As of Thursday, there are 530 days until voters go to the polls to cast a ballot for their choice for U.S. Senator in the general election.
