The highly-coveted endorsement of former President Donald Trump remains open to only two candidates in Alabama’s 2022 race for the U.S. Senate.
As Trump announced early Wednesday morning that U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) had lost his endorsement, U.S. Army veteran Mike Durant and former Business Council of Alabama head Katie Britt remain the lone contenders for the 45th president’s seal of approval.
The Durant campaign on Wednesday confirmed with Yellowhammer News that the “Black Hawk Down” candidate had met with Trump earlier this week but declined to offer further comment on the details of the meeting.
When asked by Yellowhammer News about potentially receiving a Trump endorsement, Britt’s campaign issued a statement saying that the candidate would “be thrilled” to land the former president’s support.
“Absolutely, we’d be thrilled to earn President Trump’s endorsement. I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to meet with and talk with President Trump a few times about our race,” advised Britt. “We continue to work tirelessly on the campaign trail, traveling to every corner of our state and listening to hardworking Alabamians. What we’re hearing every day is that Alabamians miss President Trump’s strength and America First leadership, and that people across Alabama know that Joe Biden’s weakness is making us more vulnerable and the world a more dangerous place.”
Britt went on to state that she was the candidate best positioned to advocate for and promote the Trump agenda in the upper chamber of Congress.
“It is clear from our travels and from our momentum that Alabamians can see that I’m the best candidate to fight for the MAGA agenda and defend our Christian conservative values,” proclaimed Britt. “Alabama patriots who overwhelmingly support President Trump — from our farmers to our foresters, builders, manufacturers, linemen, and small business owners — are standing strong with our campaign, because they’ve known where I stood from day one. We don’t need more do-nothing flip-floppers in Washington, D.C.”
The primary election is slated to occur on May 24, 2022.
