Monday, Talladega Superspeedway announced Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Katie Britt would serve as the honorary starter for the YellaWood 500 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Britt, who will be the guest of title sponsor YellaWood, will wave the green flag to set the race in motion from high above the start-finish line.

Founder, CEO and president of Great Southern Wood Preserving, the parent company of the Yellawood brand Jimmy Rane, his family and representatives of Great Southern Wood Preserving’s board of directors will serve as the event’s grand marshals.

That group will give the command “drivers, start your engines” at Sunday’s race.

Britt is vying for the Republican nomination for Alabama’s U.S. Senate seat up in 2022 against U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville), Prattville businesswoman Jessica Taylor and former U.S. ambassador to Slovenia Lynda Blanchard.

Republicans will have an opportunity to vote for their preference on who will represent the GOP on the November 2022 general election ballot on May 24, 2022.
