Del Marsh on I-10 Mobile Bay Bridge: ‘A $6 toll is not fair or reasonable’

Add Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh (R-Anniston) to the list of heavy hitters opposing the proposed toll on the new $2.1 billion I-10 Mobile Bay Bridge that would require commuters to pay a $6 toll each way when crossing from Mobile County to Baldwin County and vice-versa.

In comments given to Yellowhammer News, Marsh lobbied transportation policymakers to leave the matter of tolls up to locals.

Marsh’s remarks come on the heels of Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth voicing his opposition to the project in a video posted to social media on Monday.

“The matter of toll roads and bridges should be left up to local communities with input from their citizens and legislators on what is fair and how those much those tolls should be,” Marsh said.

“I will, explore all legislative options to ensure this project is fair and reasonable to the citizens of South Alabama — and a $6 toll is not fair or reasonable,” he added.

Gov. Kay Ivey has called a meeting of the Alabama Toll Road, Bridge and Tunnel Authority for October 7.  Although Marsh does not hold a seat on that board, his position in the Alabama Senate could come into play if legislative options are pursued.
