Brooks’ campaign co-chair Stan Mcdonald: Mike Durant candidacy ‘designed for the low-information voter’

Thursday, during an interview with FM Talk 106.5’s “The Jeff Poor Show,” U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks’ (R-Huntsville) U.S. Senate campaign co-chairman offered his thoughts on one of Brooks’ opponents, Mike Durant.

As of late, Durant’s polling has shown him to be a threat in the contest. However, his public appearances have been fewer than both Brooks and the other contender in the race for the Republican nomination, Katie Britt.

Mcdonald called Durant a “mystery candidate” and added he saw the Durant candidacy as one designed for “the low-information voter.”

“He’s a mystery candidate,” he said. “You’ve got a mystery campaign. And I think he — I may get in trouble, here comes your soundbite — I think he is designed for the low-information voter. I think that’s what he is going to get. I think you’re going to have a surprisingly low number of low information voters by the time Election Day comes along.”

“I think he is designed to go way down,” Mcdonald continued. “I think Katie is glad of it. I think it will be Mo and Katie in the runoff. I think he gets a little bit of attention at first because of the military service, and he is trying to take a little bit of a Tuberville script being an outsider.”

“If an outsider means that you rarely ever vote in your life, then he certainly is an outsider,” he added. “But he’s no Jeremiah Denton, and he’s no Tommy Tuberville. That’s glaringly clear, and I think Katie Britt will make sure everybody understands that. I think you’re looking to Mo Brooks versus Katie Britt. I think it is 57-43. It’s hardwired. I’ve said it for the past year.”
