Gudger named Alabama Tourism Advocate of the Year

State Senator Garlan Gudger of Cullman was recently recognized at the 2023 Alabama Governor’s Conference on Tourism as the state's main tourism government advocate. Gudger, vice chair of the state's Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Development Committee, is the youngest person in the history of Cullman to be elected to the Cullman City Council.

A major change in leadership for corporate giant Austal USA took place yesterday. The company's former President, Rusty Murdaugh, resigned and was quickly replaced by Michelle Kruger, vice president of global services and support, who is now acting president until the position is filled.

Second arrested in Alabama A&M shooting

The second suspect in the Alabama A&M shooting last week has been arrested after being discharged from Huntsville Hospital. Christopher Thomas was charged with assault and booked into the Madison County Jail Sunday evening.

The Troy University Board of Trustees has reelected some familiar faces to its top leadership positions. For the position of President pro tempore, C. Gibson Vance was selected. Vance has been the president of the board since 2019 and a member of it since 2012.

Bayou La Batre, known as Alabama's Seafood Capital, is experiencing some major economic adversity causing the city's mayor, Henry Barnes, to issue a declaration of disaster. The issue that led to the declaration was a flood of foreign seafood being dumped into the area which is effecting the local fishing community.
