Ivey touts road projects funded by Rebuild Alabama

Cities and counties throughout much of the Yellowhammer State can now look forward to several improved roads and bridges thanks to new funding approved Governor Kay Ivey.

One man from Wetumpka has been arrested and is now facing possible jail time and a minimum $2,000 fine as well as the loss of his hunting and fishing licenses after he shot and killed a black bear in Elmore County. Michael Watkins,32, was booked into the Elmore County Jail last week but has since posted bail.

Regions Bank's Danella honored again by American Banker

For the fifth consecutive year, American Banker Magazine has recognized Region Bank's Kate Danella as one of the "25 most powerful women in banking." This year she is ranked 9th out of the group. Danella is the current head of the Regions’ Consumer Banking Group.

Nature Conservancy acquires Wheeler Mountain property

The Nature Conservancy in Alabama, a state branch of a global conservation organization, has now acquired 596 acres on Bibb County's Wheeler Mountain, the group announced Tuesday. The goal behind the purchase, it says, is to protect the area from potential threats like commercial development.

Tuberville cosponsors bill to end government shutdowns

With a possible government shutdown looming, legislators on both sides of the aisle, particularly in the Senate, have signaled that new legislation may be necessary to prevent shutdowns.

Senator Katie Britt is continuing her work to combat Chinese influence within the United States. This time, she has helped to introduce the Science and Technology Agreement Enhanced Congressional Notification Act, which will grow oversight on science and technology agreements (STAs)that are made or have been made between the United States and China.

U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) announced Monday that her congressional district will be receiving $23.8 million in federal funding. Sewell called the funding a "major step forward" in addressing the issue of blocked railroad crossings in her home district, which includes parts of Birmingham and surrounding areas.

The University of South Alabama has reported near record growth in its first year student enrollment for 2023. Enrollment in this category has shot up by 19 percent.
