On Tuesday, Alabama Public Television formally announced long-time “Capitol Journal’ host Don Dailey would be retiring at the end of 2021.
According to a release, Dailey’s final broadcast of the long-running public affairs program will be Friday, December 17.
“For the last decade, it has been a high point of my career to bring Alabamians important news from the Statehouse and the Capitol,” Dailey said in a statement. “It has also been an honor and a privilege to interview leaders from all aspects of state government. I am so very thankful for the opportunities that have been afforded to me by Alabama Public Television and I look forward to the next chapter of my life.”
Prior to his time at Alabama Public Television, Dailey worked for some 25 years in radio news around the state, including as the morning news anchor for top-rated WZZK-FM in Birmingham. In addition to Birmingham, Dailey has spent time on the airwaves in Demopolis, Monroeville, Troy and Montgomery throughout his career.
“I’ve literally been on the air somewhere in Alabama for 40 years,” Dailey added.
Alabama Daily News publisher Todd Stacy, a veteran of both Washington, D.C. and Montgomery politics, including working for former Gov. Bob Riley and former U.S. Rep. Martha Roby, will assume the show’s hosting duties in January.
