While the reaction to last week’s effort by the Alabama Legislature to define how exemptions would pertain to the so-called vaccine mandate enacted by President Joe Biden has been mixed, the effort led by State Sens. Arthur Orr (R-Decatur) and Chris Elliott (R-Daphne) have won the head of the Alabama Republican Party over.
During an interview with Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5’s “The Jeff Poor Show,” ALGOP chair John Wahl applauded the bills signed into law by Gov. Kay Ivey last week.
“You know, the bottom line on that is no legislative session is perfect,” he said. “Would I have liked to see some other legislation? Yes. But that bill, especially SB9, is going to protect a lot of people. And that’s what good government is all about — protecting people’s rights, liberties, their freedoms. To have a short window, overcome not being on the special order call, and get a two-thirds vote was really a strong, strong message that the legislature was listening to the people. I very much appreciate their work on that.”
