When the legislature gavels in for the 2022 regular session in January, it will be a near certainty that the body will consider various bills banning so-called Critical Race Theory in Alabama’s public schools.
State Sen. Will Barfoot (R-Pike Road) declared it a “100% chance” earlier this year, and State Rep. Ed Oliver (R-Dadeville) has already pre-filed a bill for the 2022 session.
During an appearance on Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5’s “The Jeff Poor Show” on Monday, Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth emphasized the need for the ban.
Ainsworth told guest host State Rep. Andrew Sorrell (R-Muscle Shoals) that without the ban in place, liberals threatened public education, which underscored the need to get it done.
“It’s got to get done,” the lieutenant governor said. “I think when you look — anything dealing with our schools, certainly that I think is one of the most dangerous things. Liberals are trying to infiltrate our schools, change the narrative of history. So, I think we certainly need to go ahead and get that done.”
