You’ll never guess what countries have the most guns per person

Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto supposedly said in the 1940s that “You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.” Although it’s unlikely Yamamoto actually said those words, the graphic below indicates that it is probably a pretty accurate statement, regardless of where it originated.

According to stats gleaned from various resources, The United States has roughly 279 million guns in private hands, with a population of just under 314 million. If those guns were spread out across the population, it would be enough for the U.S. to have an 88.8 percent gun ownership rate.

With that nationwide stat in mind, it’s reasonable to suspect that Alabama may actually have an ownership rate over 100 percent.

Roll Tide / War Eagle.

The U.S. has more than double the percentage of guns per capita than any country ranked #5 or lower, and five times more total guns than all the other countries on this list combined.

For further comparison, the International Small Arms Survey in 2007 estimated that Russia only has between 6.5 million and 19 million guns in private hands, Germany has between 20mm-30mm, France between 18mm-20mm, and China has almost no weapons in the hands of private individuals.

Second Amendment FTW.
