DAY 5: Saturday, January 7, 2012

Roman Siege Encampment at Masada
Visit Masada: Masada is perhaps the most well-known tourist attraction in Israel with one of the most dramatic stories known to humanity. You can read about it here. We will climb (or take the cable car) to the top of the fortress where we will learn about the history and how Masada has played a role in shaping national Israeli culture.

Visit Qumran: This ancient site dates back to 134 BCE. Qumran is most famous for the Dead Sea Scrolls which were found buried in nearby caves.

Return to Jerusalem

Havdallah: We will mark the end of Shabbat and the beginning of the week with a traditional Jewish ceremony.

Film Screening at the Ma’aleh Film School: We will take a look at the work of some young directors who have made films about contemporary life in Israeli society.
