YHP In Israel: Jan. 5 Schedule

DAY 3: Thursday, January 5, 2012

Bahai Gardens in Haifa
Bahai Gardens: The Bahai faith’s central worship sites are located in Haifa and Acco. The stunning gardens are reflective of the values of the Bahai faith: peace, beauty and harmony. The temple in Haifa is the home of the leaders of the Bahai faith.

Atlit Detention Camp: This perserved site was constructed by the British Mandate in Eretz Israel, at the end of the 1930s, as a military camp on the Mediterranean coast. It was converted by them between 1939-1948 to a detention camp for “illegal“ immigrants.

Meeting with Zeidan Atashi: Atashi has been a senior reporter and commentator on Arab affairs for Israel Television, Consul and Head of Information Affairs at the Israel Consulate General in New York, a member of the Israeli delegation to the UN, a member of the Knesset, and is the author of Druze and Jews in Israel – A Shared Destiny?. After the meeting we will visit the home of a Druze family from the Carmel region who will discuss their unique customs and religion.

Ariel University: We will tour the campus and hear from students who attend this growing university in the Samarian hills (West Bank).

Meeting with Prof. Alexander Bligh: Prof. Bligh is the Director of the Middle East Research Center. He will speak to us about life and academia in one of Israel’s largest West Bank communities.

Dinner in Jerusalem
