An art museum at a decades-old Alabama company is closing.

The Tuscaloosa News reports The Westervelt Co.’s Tuscaloosa Museum of Art will close Aug. 31.

Some of the museum’s collection of American and Asian art and furniture will remain.

But corporate communications manager Susan Poole says other pieces will be “prepared for shipment” and not available for public viewing.

Art has been displayed at the business for decades, but the Tuscaloosa Museum of Art only opened in 2011.

It opened after Westervelt sold off pieces including Asher B. Durand’s “Progress (The Advance of Civilization)” and Thomas Cole’s “The Falls of Kaaterskill.”

The museum was initially named the Westervelt-Warner Museum of American Art but changed when Westervelt didn’t renew a partnership with The Jack Warner Foundation, named after a former CEO.
