The Alabama Forestry Association (AFA) announced on Tuesday its endorsement of Wes Allen in his race for Secretary of State.
Chris Iaacson, president and CEO of AFA, noted Allen’s commitment to limited government in a statement announcing the endorsement.
“Wes is a strong advocate of limited, fiscally responsible government, private property rights, and ensuring a secure election process in Alabama,” he emphasized. “We proudly support Wes in his bid for Secretary of State.”
Allen, who is serving his first term in the Alabama House of Representatives, declared his candidacy for the position in May.
In a statement to Yellowhammer News, he cited the importance of the timber industry to Alabama’s economy.
“I am honored to be endorsed by the Alabama Forestry Association,” Allen said. “The hardworking men and women in Forestry help drive Alabama’s economy, and I am thankful for them.”
At his campaign kickoff, he highlighted his previous experience as probate judge in Pike County.
“I have been on the ground on Election Day and I understand the mechanics of how elections work” Allen explained. “I will be there to support hardworking election officials across this state, both Republican and Democrat, to do everything possible to assist them and to ensure that we have the most secure elections in this country,” he added. “I want every legal Alabama voter to know that their vote is important, it matters and it will be protected.”
During the 2021 legislative session, Allen sponsored legislation prohibiting curbside voting. It passed and was signed into law by Gov. Kay Ivey.
He has also sponsored legislation to ease the regulatory burden on Alabama small businesses. The bill requires state agencies to seek approval from the legislature before enacting any rule that would have an economic impact of more than $1 million.
Alabama’s primary election is currently scheduled for May 24, 2022.
