The media loves to tell Republicans that President Donald Trump is the leader of their party. Everyone already knows this and 90 percent of Republicans agree with most of what Trump is doing. The argument, apparently, is that everyone hates Trump and Republicans will have to begrudgingly wear the Trump anchor around their neck.
It seems to be a trend:
Trump secures the nomination: “New York Times in scathing editorial: ‘It’s Donald Trump’s party now’”
Trump wins the general: “It’s Trump’s party now”
Trump is inaugurated: “Trump’s Republican Party is a far cry from the Republican Party of the 1960s and 1970s.”
After a joint address to Congress: “Analysis: After a hostile takeover, it’s Trump’s party now”
After Charlottesville: “Mr. Trump’s Republican Party is not the party of the future”
Yesterday’s primary result: “It’s Trump Party Now!”
Why this matters:
We all know it is “Trump’s Republicans Now”. The press’s bias is clear: They think they can use Trump as a weapon to punish Republicans. Look no further than Alabama’s media as they attempt to play up rifts between incumbent Republicans like Congressman Mo Brooks and Congresswoman Martha Roby, and play up their opponents. They want the story about the incumbent Congressman who loses because he doesn’t love Trump enough so they can make supporting Trump dangerous.
They have also believed that the path to victory for Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2018 midterms is to try to make Trump unacceptable for two years while continuously tying every Republican to him.
It’s transparent and we get it.
