Video: Youngest ‘madam chairwoman’ ever, Britt handed gavel

Last week, at an appropriations committee hearing, Sen. Katie Britt had a candid moment after a surprise request.

Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) asked her to take over as chair of the meeting after other ranking members had already thinned out, leaving Britt to wield the gavel.

See her reaction:

“This is the first time number 99 out of 100 …” Britt said with a laugh. “It’s going to take quite some time before I get to do something like that again.”

While Britt is not the youngest female senator in history, this moment made her the youngest Senate chairwoman in history.

Even if for a minute.
