University of South Alabama and USA Health employees and retirees contributed $224,316 to support the 2020 United Way of Southwest Alabama’s annual campaign.
More than 1,700 current and retired employees gave to this year’s campaign, which provides funding to 47 health and human service organizations in Choctaw, Clarke, Mobile and Washington counties to address key social issues in the areas of health, education and financial stability.
Lisa Mestas, chief nursing officer and associate system administrator at USA Health, André Green, Ph. D., associate vice president of academic affairs and Stephen Kayes, Ph. D., professor of medical education(retired) served as this year’s USA United Way Campaign co-chairs.
“The United Way’s mission goes hand-in-hand with the values of the University,” said Green. “They provide essential resources to the people of our community, and we are proud to be one of the organization’s largest employee campaign partners for more than 20 years.”
Since 1998, the University and USA Health have raised over $5.5 million for the United Way of Southwest Alabama through its annual campaign.
Jill Chenoweth, president of United Way of Southwest Alabama, emphasized the importance of the USA-UWSWA partnership. “Because of the generosity of the USA employees, UWSWA can provide hope and opportunity during this transformational period, stability during unstable times and leadership to steer our partner agencies into a new era of creating a vibrant, healthy community.”
