BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Volunteers with the UAB School of Dentistry provided extractions, cleanings, restorations, and other dental care to the city’s homeless and other underserved populations.

Dental students and partnering organizations worked at two locations, Christ Health Center and The Foundry, to administer the care free of charge.

“UAB Dentistry Cares Community Day provides a platform for UAB faculty, staff, students and alumni to join forces with the community in service to people in need,” said dean of the UAB School of Dentistry Michael Reddy, DMD, D.M.Sc.. “I’m proud of the way the UAB community responds to help facilitate this important event. It was an exhilarating day.”

UAB is one of the few dental schools in the country which offers the day, which is all due to the generosity of their partners in the Birmingham community, including local dentists, health agencies and companies.

Cahaba Valley Health Care, the Fortis Institute School of Dental Hygiene and local volunteers joined with the school to offer the services.
