U.S. Representative Terri Sewell took to social media to address her concerns about actions called for by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Sewell has expressed deep concern over recent terminations at the Social Security Administration (SSA) office in Birmingham, Alabama.

In a series of posts, she condemned the firing of over 100 of her constituents, attributing the actions to Elon Musk’s leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which she described as a “reckless power trip.”

“My office has received reports that more than 100 of my constituents who work at the Social Security Administration in Birmingham have been unjustly terminated,” said Sewell. “Elon Musk’s reckless power trip is directly threatening the livelihoods of my constituents. This madness must stop!”

In a later post, Sewell stressed that she will continue to monitor the situation closely.

“After speaking with our local AFGE chapter, it is our understanding that these terminations impacted Social Security Region 4, which covers several states, including Alabama. We are working to determine exactly how many employees in Alabama’s 7th Congressional District have been impacted, but our office has heard from constituents today who lost their jobs.”
