U.S. Rep.-elect Carl meets with Gov. Kay Ivey in Montgomery

U.S. Rep.-elect Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) visited the Alabama state capitol on Tuesday and spoke with Gov. Kay Ivey about priorities for the First Congressional District and the state at large ahead of being sworn into Congress in January.

A release from the governor’s office relayed that the discussion between the two leaders touched on “several areas, including the current hurricane season and trade policy.”

“I had a very productive meeting with Governor Kay Ivey today, and look forward to working with her on opportunities and issues affecting #al01,” Carl tweeted after the meeting concluded.

Carl’s district is dominated by Mobile and Baldwin Counties but also contains a few more rural counties just north of those.

Carl, formerly a Mobile County commissioner, will be one of three freshman members of Alabama’s congressional delegation in 2021. U.S. Sen.-elect Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) and fellow U.S. Rep.-elect Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) are the other two.

Ivey and Tuberville have already conducted a meeting similar to Carl’s, in which Ivey mentioned the senator-elect’s role in helping the Republican party keep control of the upper chamber.

Carl made other news this week, naming former campaign manager Zach Weidlich as his “transition aide and pointe of contact,” until Carl takes office in January.

“I look forward to announcing key staff positions in the coming days. I am confident that we will have a team of exceptional people who will serve Alabama’s 1st Congressional District well,” Carl said in a release.
