Tuscaloosa has been selected as the site for the fourth RNC presidential debate, according to national news outlets reporting on a memo circulated to campaigns about qualifying information.

The New York Times cited a memo sent out by Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel instructing the presidential candidates to prepare for a December 6th debate.

ALGOP Chairman John Wahl issued a statement late Friday afternoon regarding the debate.

“I am extremely excited that the national Republican Party is working on a debate for the state of Alabama. This has been in the works for months, and I am thrilled we are getting close,” said Wahl.

“Seeing Alabama host its first ever official presidential debate is something that has been very important to me as ALGOP Chairman, and I am incredibly thankful for Debate Committee Chairman David Bossie and RNC Chairman Ronna McDaniel for their efforts to make this happen. There is still some work to be done, but I hope this historic event can be finalized soon.”

In order to qualify for the debate, officials say that candidates will be required to have a minimum of 80,000 unique donors and will have to reach 6 percent in two national polls.

It’s a good bet The University of Alabama will be the debate site.
