A Senator close to former President Donald Trump has told The Hill that Alabama’s own U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is being considered for a position in Trump’s cabinet should the GOP nominee retake the White House.
According to the same source, the veteran collegiate coach could be tapped to lead the U.S. Department of Education.

Tuberville, on his part, has indicated that he would carefully consider any offer from President Trump to serve on the cabinet. Additionally, he said that the post could possibly be a good fit. The Senator, however, is unsure about the future of the department given many Republican’s recent calls to abolish it.
“That’d probably be me,” Tuberville said. “They’d put me in there and then they’d close it down.”
He also noted that decades of interacting with students and educators would be second nature to him thanks to his prior experience in guiding young people to success. “That’s all I did for 40 years. I’d have to do my background work. It’s like taking another job in coaching.”
According to Tuberville, he hasn’t discussed the possibility of being named to the post with Trump. “I’ve had no conversations anything about that.”
Other posts for Alabama’s senior senator in a potential Trump administration cabinet have been speculated as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of the Interior.
