Alabama GOP U.S. senatorial nominee Tommy Tuberville on Thursday evening will be at the White House to witness President Donald Trump accept the 2020 Republican presidential nomination.

Trump will deliver a speech on the South Lawn formally accepting the party’s nomination in his reelection bid, and Tuberville is among a select group of the president’s supporters who will be on-hand to watch live and in-person.

A release from the Tuberville campaign said Trump extended the invitation earlier this week. This will mark the fourth and final night of the Republican National Convention, which has been held in Charlotte, NC.

“President Trump’s reelection is our nation’s last line of defense against the Socialism and fringe beliefs that the modern Democrat Party represents,” Tuberville said in a statement.

“If liberals like Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Bernie Sanders, and Doug Jones are allowed to take control of our country, the freedoms that Americans have enjoyed for almost 250 years will be eroded and taken away virtually overnight,” he continued.

“I believe that Donald Trump is the greatest president to serve in my lifetime, and over the past several months, I have come to know him as a friend, so being on hand as he accepts our party’s nomination will be a humbling and historic experience,” Tuberville concluded.

This is not the first time that Tuberville has gotten exclusive face time with the president. After Trump enthusiastically endorsed the former Auburn University football coach’s Senate candidacy in March, POTUS then hosted him aboard Air Force One in June.

On the night Tuberville won the Republican runoff election last month, Trump tweeted a congratulatory message that said, “[Coach Tuberville] will be a great Senator for the incredible people of Alabama.” The president added, “[Doug Jones] is a terrible Senator who is just a Super Liberal puppet for Schumer & Pelosi. Represents Alabama poorly. On to November 3rd.”

In contrast, U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) was an early backer of Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential bid. Alabama’s junior senator was also a featured speaker at last week’s Democratic National Convention. He twice voted to remove Trump from office during impeachment proceedings earlier this year.
