U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville is hoping Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell can still do the job after he froze up for the second time in front of reporters last week.
“There’s going to be a lot of things that the leader’s going to have to really be on top of,” Tuberville (R-Auburn) told CNN’s Manu Raju Tuesday. “And can he do it? I mean it’s like being a quarterback. I hope he can.”

Capitol physician Dr. Brain Monahan said there is no evidence McConnell has a seizure disorder or had a stroke.
Tuberville believes McConnell still might be having issues after recovering from a fall in March.
“I’ve seen him. He’s struggled. We all would have,” he said. “You hit your head and have a bad concussion. I’ve seen kids in my profession of football really struggle for a long time after a concussion. That’s the reason you don’t play them after that.
“They don’t go back into the game until you’re completely well, and it’s obvious he’s not completely well.”
Tuberville also said on Fox Business that it’s up to McConnell to make the decision on whether he’s still able to lead the party.
“I voted for the leader. I was the very first one to come out and say I want him back as leader after the last election, but you know we’ve got to have a good quarterback,” he said. “We’ve got to have somebody that runs the show. Hopefully he can do it, but he needs to make that decision one way or another.”
