Tuberville on possible third term for Trump: ‘Don’t ever close the book on President Trump’

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is suggesting that maybe there’s a way for Trump to run for a third term as President of the United States.

The idea of Trump being able to run again has been pushed by former advisor Steve Bannon, who told the Economist recently, “Well he’s going to get a third term. So, Trump ‘28, Trump is going to be president in ‘28 and people ought to just get accommodated with that.”

Trump himself was asked about it recently, but responded, “I think people wouldn’t like that. It’s too cute. It wouldn’t be right.”

The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.”

MSNBC asked Tuberville about the idea Tuesday.

“If you read the Constitution, it says it’s not. He says he has some different circumstances that might be able to go around the Constitution, but that’s up to him. We’ve got a long way to go before that happens,” Tuberville said. “I think there’s going to have to be an evaluation from President Trump’s viewpoint to the Constitution. There will be a lot of legal aspects to it. Will it happen? Very unlikely, but don’t ever close the book on President Trump.”
