Tuberville: ‘Democrats are desperately trying to stop the American people from deciding who will be our next President’

(U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville)

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) spoke outside the front steps of the Supreme Court Thursday and condemned attempts by some Democratic states to kick former President Donald Trump off the ballot.

Joined by Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS), Tuberville spoke as the Justices inside the courtroom were hearing oral arguments on Colorado’s decision to remove Trump from the Republican Presidential Primary ballot.

“They’re using legal theory that has never been used before,” Tuberville (R-Auburn) said. It goes way beyond the Constitution. It twists the words of our Constitution into something that is never been.”

Colorado is arguing that they have a right to remove a candidate from ballot because of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which says an officer of the United States cannot hold any office if they have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the federal government. Democrats say Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021 qualify as an insurrection.

The senator believes that argument isn’t valid and said the Democrats were hypocrites on the issue of protecting democracy.

“Democrats like to talk about democracy,” he argued, “but Democrats are desperately trying to stop the American people from deciding who will be our next President. They couldn’t care less about our Constitution. They couldn’t care less about the will of the people. They couldn’t care less about our courts.”

Tuberville then called on the Supreme Court to stop the Democrats’ illegal attempt to prevent Trump from running for President.

“This court must uphold the original public meaning of our Constitution,” he continued. “Stop today this attack on our democracy. Let the American people decide in November who their leaders will be.”

According to reports, it appears that the majority of Justices on the Supreme Court are unlikely to uphold Colorado’s right to remove Trump from the ballot.
