U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) spoke at the Mercedes-Benz Alabama assembly plant in Vance on Tuesday to celebrate the world premiere of the GLE and GLS models and mark the assembly of 5 million vehicles at the facility since production began nearly 30 years ago.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy and U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) joined Tuberville at the event.
Mercedes-Benz U.S. International currently employs roughly 5,800 Alabamians and supports an additional 58,000 jobs through suppliers and service providers in the region. The Vance facility has operated since 1997.
“Manufacturing in Alabama is BOOMING!” Tuberville wrote on Facebook following the event. “Glad to be in Tuscaloosa County today with Secretary Duffy at the WORLD-CLASS Mercedes plant for the unveiling of the new GLE and GLS models. I’m proud of the work Mercedes has done with their Alabama workforce and look forward to partnering with them in the future.”
Britt highlighted the scope of the company’s commitment to the state. “Mercedes-Benz is investing over $4 billion right here in Alabama,” Britt wrote on Facebook. “This is what fighting for American workers and American manufacturing looks like.”
