Trump’s inauguration day will feature lowered flags. But Governor Ivey is ordering them to be raised in Alabama.

Governor Kay Ivey has announced that flags on the grounds of the Alabama State Capitol Complex and several state buildings will be returned to full staff for next week’s presidential inauguration. Flags across the country were recently lowered to half-staff in honor of former President Jimmy Carter who died on December 29.

“I am directing flags be returned to full staff on the grounds of the Alabama State Capitol and all state buildings January 20, for Inauguration Day,” Ivey said on social media. “Tuesday, January 21, all flags will, once again, fly at half-staff to resume the 30-day period of mourning for President Carter.”

According to Ivey’s office, federal law, as cited in 4 U.S.C. §6, enumerates times and occasions for display of the U.S. flag, including Inauguration Day.

Alabama and Texas are currently the only states that have announced plans to raise flags to full staff for the inauguration.
