A 10-year-old boy visiting the Alabama coast from St. Louis was killed by debris Wednesday morning in Fort Morgan, Alabama. The boy’s tragic death is the first confirmed loss of life by Tropical Storm Cindy that’s battering the Gulf Coast.

According to the reports by Weather Channel and ABC News, the boy died of injuries after being struck by a large log that suffered when the storm surge was pushed on shore during Cindy’s storm surge. The ABC story said The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office indicated the boy was standing outside the beachfront rental condo where he and his family were staying in Fort Morgan “when a large wave knocked a log into him around 10:30 a.m.” only feet from the front door. His father and another witness tried to resuscitate the boy while waiting for first responders but he was declared dead on the scene. At this time, the boy’s name has not been released.
