Answering the call to serve their community, three law students were recently awarded scholarships from the Alexander Shunnarah law firm.

The trio received the firm’s “Call Me Alabama Scholarship,” based on Shunnarah’s famous tag line from his advertisements.

Demarcus Joiner, a second-year student at the University of Alabama Law School, was awarded $5,000; Sam Leffert, also a second-year law student at Alabama, will receive $2,500; and Chichi Jumbo, who is in her first year at Birmingham School of Law, was awarded $1,000.

“I will devote my time as an attorney to become a champion for individuals who feel voiceless — serving as an advocate for Alabamians to call,” Joiner said.

Shunnarah said he hopes the scholarship will help Alabama law students give back to their communities.

“We were blown away by countless impressive essays of strength, hard work and dedication to the justice system,” he said. “We are extremely encouraged by the next generation of lawyers in the incredible state of Alabama and look forward to seeing where their futures take them.”
