Less than 24 hours after Tuscaloosa became the home of the heavyweight champion of the world, Alabama won another national championship.

One day removed from Deontay Wilder’s title fight victory, the University of Alabama has won the national championship in coed and all-girls cheerleading at the UCA/UDA college cheerleading championships.

The Universal Cheerleaders Association and Universal Dance Association claims to be the most prestigious college cheerleading championship in the country, and Alabama won in both competitions.

In the coed competition, Central Florida, Kentucky, Kansas and Western Kentucky rounded out the top five, while Indiana, San Diego State, Louisiana-Monroe and South Florida were second through fifth in the all-girl competition behind Alabama.

Cheerleading is something Alabama fans may take for granted, most likely because they are typically focused on what’s happening on the field, but the Crimson Tide cheerleaders showed they can win titles without the football team’s involvement.

The competition was held from Jan. 16-18 at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports at Lake Buena Vista, Fla. and involved 100 colleges throughout the country taking part in 12 separate competitions. This is the first time in the history of the UCA/UDA competition that the same school has won both the coed and all-girls competition.

While winning football national championships is a priority for Alabama, cheerleading titles may have to suffice for the 2014-2015 season.
