The recent arrest of a University of Alabama doctoral student by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents has made headlines throughout the state, with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security stating the individual “posed significant national security concerns.”
On a call with reporters Wednesday morning, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville explained that while much of the information surrounding the detainment of Iranian national Alireza Doroudi hasn’t been made public yet, he fully expects that it will be in the near future.
“Obviously, at the end of the day, the information will be revealed,” Tuberville (R-Auburn) said. “We’re all in national security — we all have seen what happened over the last four years with the Biden Administration. We’ve had millions of people come here who are not citizens. We’ve also had people come in from other countries, coming to universities that are waving other people’s flags, taunting other students, and not going by the rules of our country.”
“You don’t go by the rules of our country — you should be going home.”

The Senator emphasized that illegal immigrants actively trying to avoid deportation will soon be apprehended by the federal government.
“This is America. You come here, you go by the laws,” continued Tuberville. “If you don’t, you go home. If you’re an illegal, you’re gonna be sent home eventually once Tom Homan and Kristi Noem get around to it because we cannot afford it. We have lost hundreds of billions of dollars taking care of all the people coming in here that American taxpayers didn’t invite. Joe Biden invited them. So, it is a tough situation right now, but if you’re here and not a citizen, eventually Homeland Security will get around to you to evaluate your situation.”
“If you’re on a college campus and you are creating and breaking laws on these campuses, it’s time to go home. We don’t need to put up with you.”
Doroudi is currently being held at the Jena/LaSalle Detention Facility in Louisiana.
