Three Alabama men arrested for stealing vases from cemeteries

(Oxford PD)

Three Alabama men are accused of stealing around 100 bronze vases from graves and selling them as scrap metal.

AL.com reports 36-year-old Johnathan Miquel Brittain, 28-year-old Colby Adam Humphries and 31-year-old Ronnie Dale Norton II are charged with conspiracy to commit theft. Oxford police Capt. L.G. Owens says the three are thought to be responsible for thefts at two cemeteries in Oxford and Anniston.

The newspaper reports a large component of the bronze vases is copper, which is in high demand.

Court records say the vases are each worth $500 to $1,000.

The men are set to appear in court Oct. 4. It is unclear if any of them have a lawyer to contact for comment.
