The White House targeted Birmingham because Democrat cities gave up on fighting crime long ago

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt singled out Birmingham for its crime and sanctuary status as part of the problem with high-crime areas.

Red state governors, including Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, seem unlikely to use the National Guard to deal with the issue in big Blue cities.

As long as they do this, Democrats will highlight their unwillingness to use the National Guard while supporting the deployment elsewhere.
