Tales from the Trump Store: A year of fun, flashlights, and friendships

Greg and Jodi Chapman, owners of The Trump Store, located in Scottsboro, are doing their part to Make America Great Again.

Recently, the couple became media celebrities when WAAY-TV visited the store for an interview. The Chapmans told the television reporter that the Trump Store in Scottsboro and the second in Manchester, Tennessee, have had visitors from all areas drop by and share humorous and entertaining anecdotes with them while shopping for their favorite Trump items.

The store carries Trump memorabilia including bobbleheads, talking MAGA flashlights, Trump shirts, and a number of other items featuring or relating to the President.

When asked about purchases, Chapman said, “A lot of shirts, thank goodness, but I mean everything – bobbleheads. They just love the Trump brand.”

Inauguration Day was a perfect opportunity for the couple to use their business expertise. After listening to President Trump’s speech, Greg came up with an idea for a new shirt. President Trump repeated the phrase, “Jan. 20 was “Liberation Day,” and within an hour of hearing the catchphrase, the couple created custom-made T-shirts with “Liberation Day” and “January 20” and stocked the shelves full.

Austin Brooks, a traveler from Dallas, Texas, was passing through Scottsboro, saw the store, and couldn’t resist dropping in to see what was for sale.

After a short search, Brooks found something to buy.

“This is for my aunt because this is just great. It’s a keychain, and you need to have a flashlight, but a flashlight that does this (pressing a button that shoots a light out of its mouth while a recorded voice says ‘Make America Great Again’),” he said. “Trump fans are a different breed because they know how to poke fun at themselves. And you walk around in the store, and some of this stuff is really not flattering, but it’s awesome.”

On January 6, the couple celebrated the store’s first anniversary and thanked their customers in a Facebook post.

“We have been in business at our Scottsboro location for one year today! We can’t thank you all enough for the support you give us and President Trump! Our little town of Scottsboro has shown up and shown out. Through this store, we have been able to open our second location in Manchester and meet SO many wonderful people along the way. We love your stories and the friendships that we have acquired.”

The Chapmans also said they were considering starting a Facebook page called Tales from the Trump Store to share the fun with everyone.

The Trump Store is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Its address is 110 S. Market St., Scottsboro, Alabama.
