Alabama’s U.S. House delegation was split along party lines in how they reacted to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address Tuesday night.
The President’s speech focused on how his administration is helping the economy, deporting illegal immigrants, and projecting strength on the world stage. Trump also took some opportunities to criticize his predecessor’s failures along with those of the Democratic Party.
“The Biden administration and its allies in Congress gave us the worst inflation in the history of our country,” Trump said on Tuesday night.
“But in 12 months, my administration has driven core inflation to the lowest level in more than five years, and in the last three months of 2025, it was down to 1.7%.”
U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) praised Trump’s speech for being America first.
“President Trump presented the facts to the American people, and the message was clear: when America is first, America prospers, Strong said. “Trump’s leadership focuses squarely on America First policies that are lowering costs for American families and restoring strength at home and abroad — a stark contrast from the Biden administration.”
“While inflation and mortgage rates soared to record highs under Biden, under Trump, inflation is falling, and mortgage rates are at a three-year low,” he added. “Gas prices are at four-year lows, private-sector jobs are growing, and working families are benefiting from historic tax cuts. America has returned to common sense and its core values. The state of the union is strong and getting stronger.”
U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) said the speech laid out how Trump has “has brought America back into the Golden Age after a disastrous four years under the Biden Administration.”

Alabama Republicans believe President Donald Trump is on the right side of history when it comes to dealing with the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders on Monday, just days after holding a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin last Friday.
“During the meeting we discussed Security Guarantees for Ukraine, which Guarantees would be provided by the various European Countries, with a coordination with the United States of America,” Trump said Monday on Truth Social, “Everyone is very happy about the possibility of PEACE for Russia/Ukraine.”
Members of Alabama’s Republican Congressional delegation praised Trump’s efforts at achieving peace between the two world powers.
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) said Trump is a “President of Peace.”

The senator discussed the topic during an appearance on the Fox Business network.
“Thank goodness we got President Trump that’s speaking for us,” Tuberville said. “He’s a peacemaker. I mean, he’s already stopped, what, five, six, seven wars that have been fighting all over the world the last 10, 15 years.”
U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) agreed with Tuberville, also calling Trump a “President of Peace.”

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks), who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, said, “President Trump knows that peace through strength works. That’s why I fully support his push for robust security guarantees for Ukraine. These guarantees are essential to deter a third Russian invasion and ensure any peace agreement is enduring.”

You would think that the Democratic Party would have learned from President Donald Trump’s electoral victory.
Trump won the popular vote, the swing states, most of the districts in the country shifted toward Republicans, and Democrats lost control of the House, Senate, and Presidency. But the Democrats just can’t help themselves.
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) put forward a bill to protect Title IX and women’s sports. According to most polls, the vast majority of Americans believe that biological men shouldn’t play in women’s sports. This was an opportunity for the Democratic Party to prove they aren’t completely controlled by the woke left base, that they’ve learned from the election loss and are changing course, but not a single Democrat could vote for the bill.
The Democrats just can’t help themselves.
Then Trump gives his address to a joint session of Congress. Another opportunity for the Democrats to show that they can rise above the usual partisan heckling.
Instead, many of them tripled down on the heckling. They held up signs, yelled at Trump, and refused to clap for things that should be unifying and uplifting for both sides of the aisle. It got so bad that U.S. Rep. Al Green had to be escorted out of the room for his constant interruptions.
The story of the night was the childish antics by the Democrats, but they just couldn’t help themselves.
Later in the week Green was censured by a majority vote in the House for his disgraceful behavior. It was yet ANOTHER opportunity for Democrats to take the reasonable position. To admit that one of their own members had gone too far.
To show that disagreement shouldn’t break down into chaos. But only 10 Democrats voted in favor of the measure against Green. Even U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures (D-Mobile) couldn’t bring himself to vote for it, instead voting ‘present.’
The Democrats just can’t help themselves.
This is not just a problem in Washington D.C., but also with the Democrats in Montgomery. The minority party hasn’t had much relevance in the Yellowhammer State since 2010. The further to the left the party goes, the less influence they will have in state politics. And yet the Democratic leadership in Alabama is apparently following the lead of the national party.
Minority Leader Bobby Singleton (D-Greensboro) and others activated a filibuster against a bill on the calendar to reform the board of the Alabama Department of Archives and History.
Singleton raged against Trump and Elon Musk over DOGE, which had nothing to do with the bill being debated. Then Singleton told Republicans, “And if they don’t like it, they can take their ass home.” This is not a serious opposition because the Democrats just can’t help themselves.
Now members of the Alabama House Minority Caucus are proposing sweeping tax reforms financed by repealing the CHOOSE Act and passing comprehensive gaming reform. After all the years it took to get Republicans on board with school choice, do they honestly believe it has any chance of being repealed now?
School choice is also overwhelmingly popular in Alabama right now. Instead of putting forward a package that could get some Republican support, they put forward policies that will go nowhere, all because the Democrats just can’t help themselves.
I’m not usually the one who would give advice to Democrats, but the majority of the American people are not impressed with the “resistance.” They voted for Trump in large part as a rejection to the radical leftist woke agenda that has taken control of the Democratic Party.
If the Democrats in D.C. and Montgomery controlled their behavior and moderated on some of their positions, they might be able to gain back some of the voters they lost to Trump. But I’m not holding my breath that they will change, because the Democrats just can’t help themselves.

U.S. Rep Mike Rogers (R-Saks) has been named a ‘2024 Hero of Main Street’ by the largest retail trade association, the National Retail Federation. The organization is recognizing business and legislative leaders from across the country for their contributions to the industry.
“I am incredibly proud to be named a ‘Hero of Main Street’ for 2024,” said Rogers (AL-03). “Supporting local retail is a huge priority of mine at the federal level. Our local retailers are an incredibly important part of our economy and our communities.”
“Alabama’s third district would not be the same without retailers, and I am very thankful for the support of the National Retail Federation.”
The distinction was awarded by an official’s voting record, bill sponsorship, and advocacy on behalf of the industry. According to Rogers, retail in Alabama directly supports nearly $60B in annual gross domestic product and 760,000 in total jobs.

Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-Saks) is pushing the Biden Administration to abandon its Gaza Pier operation.
In a recent letter to National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, and Secretary of State Antony Blinken the Congressman from Saks requested that th administration promptly find a more viable way to provide aid for Gaza.
“Three and a half months since the President’s announcement of a maritime corridor for Gaza and at least $230 million wasted, the operation has been riddled with setbacks, sidelined more often than operational, and can only be classified as a gross waste of taxpayer dollars,” wrote Rogers.
“I urge the Administration to immediately cease this failed operation before further catastrophe occurs and consider alternative means of land and air-based humanitarian aid delivery.”
Rogers also took to X to issue further condemnation of the Joint Logistics Over the Shore (JLOTS) operation.
https://x.com/RepMikeRogersAL/status/1806422770898665901
According to Rogers, during the first three weeks of the operation began, JLOTS moved about 10 trucks per day from the pier into Gaza, a small fraction of the estimated 150 truck per day capacity for the operation. As of June 19, JLOTS had only been operational about 10 days and had only moved 3,415 metric tons onto the beach in Gaza.

Alabama’s elected officials honored law enforcement across the state and country on Wednesday. On the federal level, Alabama’s two U.S. Senators and Republican Congressional representatives thanked police for risking their lives everyday to serve their communities.
U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) and Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) not only helped to introduce a resolution establishing May 8-18 as National Police Week, but also took part in a constructive National Police Week roundtable featuring multiple senators and legal experts.

“America’s brave men and women in blue wake up every day prepared to sacrifice their own safety in service to fellow Americans they may not even know,” said Senator Tuberville. “Police officers are the first line of defense for Alabamians and families across the country. Yet today, Democrats have turned our police into national punching bags. Democrats’ attacks on our police are absolutely repugnant and must be condemned by every American, especially those in public office. Police are some of the best people in this country.”
“Now, more than ever, they deserve our gratitude and support.”
Senator Britt also emphasized the sacrifice law enforcement officers make each day.
This National Police Week, I encourage everyone to thank at least one officer in-person. These incredible men and women leave the safety of their own homes every single day to courageously protect our families and selflessly serve our communities.

Apparently, after 2 1/2 years of delay it will be another six months before a decision is made for a permanent headquarters for the U.S. Space Command between Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville and Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs.
The Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act includes a provision championed by U.S. Rep. Dale Strong which prohibits funding from being used to expand the Space Command’s interim headquarters in Colorado Springs.
Specifically, Sec. 2889 in the NDAA will stop the command from renting, planning, designing, or constructing new facilities.
“I promised to fight for Space Command from day one as your congressman, and refused to sit idly by as political influence was used to reverse a merit-based decision,” said Strong (R-Monrovia).
The funding freeze will remain until at least June 30, 2024, and is contingent on completed investigations by the Department of Defense Inspector General and the Comptroller General of the United States.
RELATED: Rogers: Congress will ‘correct’ Biden on Space Command
“I am confident that these new investigations will uncover executive interference from the Biden administration in the basing process,” said Strong.
This will be the second DoD Inspector General investigation looking into the SPACECOM basing decision. The first, completed in May 2022, found the Air Force’s original decision for SPACECOM headquarters “was reasonable in identifying Huntsville as the preferred permanent location.”
“Doing what’s right for our armed forces and nation’s security is my driving force,” Strong said. “I’m proud to be able to call attention to this bogus Biden decision and ensure that our taxpayer dollars are used in the best interest of national defense.”
The FY24 NDAA is expected to pass the House of Representatives and the Senate this week.

The provision was added after staff members of Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers discovered Space Command-related construction going on at Colorado Springs.
Rogers’ staff on the committee said the Space Command and Air Force over the last two years were “signing leases and building out infrastructure in Colorado” during the review of the decision to place the headquarters on Redstone Arsenal.
“I intend to work to make sure that no funds are authorized or expended to be spent in Colorado Springs for the building of the permanent headquarters,” Rogers (R-Saks) said at the time.
Many universities across the country are under fire for their failed response to the Oct. 7 terror attacks on Israel, perpetrated by Hamas, and the subsequent surge in antisemitic hate crimes.
Alabama’s Republican congressional delegation is among those condemning the rise in antisemitism in the United States and around the world — particularly against students on college campuses.
“We have seen a rise in antisemitism across our country and the world in the wake of the October 7th attacks on Israel that is deeply concerning,” said U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) in a statement. ‘Now more than ever, we must condemn antisemitism and reaffirm our support for the Jewish community at home and abroad.
“We also must make clear that America’s support for the State of Israel is steadfast and unwavering.”

Congress recently held a hearing on the rise of antisemitism on college campuses. During the hearing, university administrators defended the protestors.
Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) retweeted a post by Auburn head basketball coach Bruce Pearl.
“Am I hearing this right? The Presidents of MIT, Penn and Harvard are saying that calling for THE GENOCIDE OF JEWS, is a violation of code of conduct, DEPENDING ON THE CAUSE AND EFFECT? You mean an action must take place for it to be a violation? I can’t believe what I’m hearing!”

“Last night, the House overwhelmingly voted to reaffirm the State of Israel’s right to exist and to call on Hamas to release the hostages immediately,” Rogers said. “I was proud to stand with my colleagues on these measures. America will always stand with Israel.”
Many of the protestors are openly calling for the destruction of the state of Israel.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville has repeatedly expressed his concerns about the growing antisemitism that many colleges and universities seem to be either tolerating or indoctrinating.
“Where do I see the problem? I’ll tell you where the problem [is] – we don’t have any leadership on our college campuses,” Tuberville (R-Auburn) said on the Senate floor.
“Our students are vulnerable when they come to college. We all were. You’re excited. You want to learn different things, and sometimes you get in a little bit of trouble, but you have to know right from wrong,” Tuberville said. “A lot of it starts at home. But we have to have something done on the secondary level and the higher education level.”
Sen. Katie Britt says she’s been following the rise in anti-Jewish violence across the country, frequently calling Hamas’ actions “disgusting” and “despicable.”

“In a region full of dangerous adversaries, Israel is a shining beacon of freedom. America has no more reliable strategic partner or stronger friend,” Britt (R-Montgomery) said. “As Alabamians, we’re incredibly proud of the fact that our state was the first to recognize Israel as a nation more than 75 years ago.
“In the Senate, I’m proud to carry on that tradition of strong, mutually beneficial support.”
Jewish students who experienced harassment on campus recently testified to Congress about the increasingly hostile environment on American college campuses.

A hearing of the House Armed Services Committee gave three Alabama lawmakers the opportunity to get some answers about the decision to base the headquarters of U.S. Space Command in Colorado over Alabama.
They say that move was blatantly political and possibly unlawful.
U.S. Space Command Gen.James Dickinson, Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman, and Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall had to hear them out, as the hearing was on the subject of “examining irregularity in the strategic basing process for U.S. Space Command.”
Reps. Mike Rogers, Terri Sewell and Dale Strong methodically questioned the three senior military officials in a hearing that lasted two hours.
“I want to start by emphasizing that when the president made his announcement on (July 31st), the sole reason he gave for deviating from the competition results was General Dickinson indicating there would be a diminution in operational readiness, space readiness if they were to move. Period. Full stop.”
That’s how Chairman of the committee, Rep. Rogers (R-Saks), began his initial questions.
“You can turn that time limit off,” he said.
RELATED: Rogers: Congress will ‘correct’ Biden on Space Command
Rogers, Sewell and Strong attempted to unwind logistical and political considerations. They focused on several factors that indicate locating SPACECOM at Peterson Air Force will offer less capabilities at a greater expense to taxpayers.
Sewell (D-Birmingham) asked about the command relying heavily on contractors to meet its civilian workforce demands after layers of official government reports identified Huntsville as the superior choice to meet local workforce needs.
“Huntsville, Alabama is unequivocally the best place for Space Command. Not because it’s cheaper – although that’s really important, cost savings – but because of superior competency, and an able and ready workforce,” Sewell said.
“General Dickinson, isn’t it a fact that we could spend every dime projected in mitigation costs and still come out ahead financially by moving to Huntsville?”
RELATED: Biden overturns Space Command HQ decision
Strong (R-Monrovia), who represents Huntsville in Congress, fired off a similar line of questioning about Peterson’s vulnerabilities.
“Colorado Springs has a real space problem. Literally,” he said. “There’s not enough space for your required personnel numbers on Peterson Air Force Base, which does offer force protection.
“Are there any SPACECOM functions being run out of trailers currently in Colorado?”
Dickinson indicated yes.
“Aren’t you lacking sufficient backup power for multiple buildings?” Strong asked.
Dickinson indicated yes.
“Aren’t there over 1,000 personnel working at two separate facilities 4.5 miles and another 10 miles away from Peterson Space Force base with zero force protection, not even a concrete barrier, is that true?” Strong asked.
Again, Gen. Dickinson indicated yes.
“Do they have protection from those buildings to keep threats away?” Strong asked.
“No, they do not,” Dickinson said.
“It is just unbelievable,” Strong said.
RELATED: Strong accuses Space Command general of lying
Sewell, Alabama’s singular Democratic representative in Washington, told the generals a critical national security decision like this has zero room for partisanship.
“I want to say for the record that I am an ardent supporter, a passionate supporter of President Biden. And what I believe is that President Biden wasn’t given all the facts when he made that decision,” Sewell said. “So General Dickinson, I want to know, does President Biden know that you told the entire Alabama delegation, I was sitting there myself, when asked by Chairman Rogers, about operational readiness, that it would not be affected if it went to Alabama? You said, quote, ‘no, sir.’
“Did he know that?”
Dickinson said, “I can’t, I don’t know if the President knew that or not.”
Sewell ultimately expressed concern the decision was made in disregard of an objectively wide gap in years worth of official government vetting.
RELATED: GAO: Alabama 1st, Colorado 5th for Space Command HQ
Rogers concluded his remarks with a promise that the situation is ongoing.
“So what I want to point out about where we are now is, we don’t live in a monarchy. We live in a constitutional republic,” Rogers said. “It is my intent to make sure that the competition results are honored and that permanent basing headquarters are authorized and funded to be constructed in Huntsville, Alabama.
“I’m going to ask the Inspector General for the Department of Defense to investigate this. In the meantime, I intend to work to make sure that no funds are authorized or expended to be spent in Colorado Springs for the building of the permanent headquarters.”

Democratic and Republican members of the Alabama congressional delegation are showing their displeasure with President Joe Biden after he overturned the decision to locate the Space Command Headquarters in Huntsville.
According to reports, Biden decided to keep the HQ in Colorado because it would avoid issues with military readiness.
U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham) said the leader of her party is putting partisan politics of national security.
“This Administration’s decision to keep Space Command in Colorado bows to the whims of politics over merit. Huntsville’s merits won this selection process fair and square,” Sewell said. “In three separate reports, Huntsville reigned victorious, whereas Colorado did not come in second or even third.
“This reversal is as shameful as it is disappointing. I expected more from the Biden Administration. A decision of this magnitude should not be about red states versus blue states, but rather what is best for our national security. To be clear, the Alabama Congressional Delegation stands united in opposition to this decision.”

Sewell wasn’t the only Democrat to condemn Biden’s reversal as former Sen. Doug Jones said he was “disappointed” in the president.
“I am very disappointed in the President’s decision for Space Command to remain in Colorado and not move to Alabama as was originally announced,” Jones said. “I think it’s fair to say that everyone knew where I stood on the issue and over the last couple of years have expressed that to the President and folks at the Pentagon.”
While Jones disagreed with the decision, he also defended the president somewhat and said he believes it wasn’t done for purely partisan reasons.
“But while I personally disagree with the decision,” he said, “the one thing I am absolutely confident of is that Joe Biden made the decision without regard to politics and instead based his decision on his judgment of what is in the best interest of the national security of the United States. Period.”

U.S. Rep. Dale Strong also criticized the president about an issue that directly affects his district, while also emphasizing that it isn’t settled.
“It is clear to anyone who has looked at the facts: Huntsville, Alabama is the best place for U.S. Space Command Headquarters,” Strong (R-Huntsville) said. “Repeated investigations and objective reviews have proven that to be the case.

Rep. Mike Rogers, who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, also said the fight for the Space Command HQ isn’t over, and has plans to launch an investigation into the matter.
“Huntsville, Alabama was chosen to be the headquarters of U.S. Space Command because it was the strongest location and investigations by the DoD IG and GAO have upheld this decision,” Rogers (R-Saks) said. “Yet, the Biden administration decided to make Colorado Springs, Colorado, which came in fifth in the Selection Phase, the location of the headquarters for U.S. Space Command. It’s clear that far-left politics, not national security, was the driving force behind this decision.
“The Biden administration’s shameful delay to finalize the permanent basing decision for U.S. Space Command warranted the opening of a Congressional investigation. I will continue this investigation to see if they intentionally misled the Armed Services Committee on their deliberate taxpayer-funded manipulation of the selection process. I will continue to hold the Biden administration accountable for their egregious political meddling in our national security.

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, ranking member of the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, called the move “irresponsible” and believes Biden has damaged national defense.
“President Biden has irresponsibly decided to yank a military decision out of the Air Force’s hands in the name of partisan politics,” Britt (R-Montgomery) said. “Huntsville finished first in both the Air Force’s Evaluation Phase and Selection Phase, leaving no doubt that the Air Force’s decision to choose Redstone as the preferred basing location was correct purely on the merits. That decision should have remained in the Air Force’s purview. Instead, President Biden is now trying to hand the Gold Medal to the fifth-place finisher.
“The President’s blatant prioritization of partisan political considerations at the expense of our national security, military modernization, and force readiness is a disservice and a dishonor to his oath of office as our nation’s Commander-in-Chief. Locating the permanent Space Command Headquarters on Redstone Arsenal undoubtedly remains in the best national security interest of the United States. President Biden should allow the Air Force to proceed with doing its job. Alabama’s world-class aerospace and defense workforce, capabilities, and synergies stand ready to fulfill the mission and strengthen our national security long into the future.”

All six Republican members of the Alabama congressional delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives voted in favor of this year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
The bill passed the full House Friday on a largely partisan vote of 219 to 210 and now goes to the Senate.
Alabama’s lone Democrat in Congress, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham), voted against the bill – the first time she’s voted against an NDAA.
According to a summary sheet by the House Armed Services Committee, the law authorizes $886 billion for national defense programs and includes a 5.2% pay increase for servicemembers.
U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, praised the passage of the bill he says will strengthen national security.
https://twitter.com/RepMikeRogersAL/status/1679920673236320280?s=20
“The National Defense Authorization Act has been a critical part of our national security for over 60 years,” Rogers said in a statement. “The NDAA provides our warfighters with the resources and authorities they need to provide for the defense of our nation. This legislation is vital as our nation is faced with unprecedented threats from our adversaries.”
He also said the funding will benefit the Yellowhammer State.
“The FY24 NDAA also recognizes the critical role Alabama plays in our national defense and strengthens that role for years to come,” he said.

“The House version of the FY24 NDAA strengthens deterrence against U.S. adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) through increasing funding for innovative technologies like AI and high energy lasers,” Strong said in a statement. “It also requires the Department of Defense (DoD) to mitigate land purchases made by CCP-backed entities near military bases. ”
Strong also highlighted how the bill will help secure the relocation of the Space Command Headquarters to Huntsville.
“We fought off two separate attempts to delay the permanent basing decision announcement of U.S. Space Command,” he said, “secured research and development funding authorizations that benefit small business and universities, have ensured the Department of Defense and the military services will stay on mission, addressed delays within the defense industrial base, and much more. We’re just getting started.”
U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) said this year’s NDAA is “one of the strongest defense bills in history.”

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) said the bill is a victory of national security and for the state of Alabama.
https://twitter.com/USRepGaryPalmer/status/1679877064705310721?s=20
“This legislation is not just a win for our military, but also for Alabamians,” Palmer said in a news release. “Space Command’s move to Alabama is long overdue and is the best option for the long-term success of the newest military branch. To ensure the administration stops playing politics with our national security, section 2866 prohibits funds for being used to build a headquarters for Space Command and cuts the travel budget for the Secretary of the Air Force in half until he submits a report to the congressional defense committees justifying the selection of a permanent location for the headquarters. It’s time to bring Space Command home to Huntsville.”
Sewell criticized the bill and said she did not take her vote lightly.
https://twitter.com/RepTerriSewell/status/1679877813233483776?s=20
“I did not take this vote lightly,” she said. “I have proudly voted in favor of the annual defense bill every year since coming to Congress. But I cannot and will not support a bill that would rip basic health care away from our service members and make bigotry and discrimination a centerpiece of our defense policy.”
Sewell was referencing amendments to the law that would eliminate Pentagon diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, as well as prohibit the the Secretary of Defense from paying for or reimbursing expenses relating to abortion services.
The bill now goes to the Senate.

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, chairman the House Armed Services Committee, is criticizing the Secretary of Defense over faults in his After Action Review of the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan.

Rogers (R-Saks) sent a letter to Austin detailing his issues with the report and Austin’s “personal reflections” that were attached to the report in a classified memorandum.
Letter to Sec. Austin Re Af… by Houston Keene
“While the fog of war is likely to result in mistakes and even tragedy,” Rogers said in the letter, “an honest appraisal of the Biden Administration’s involvement in implementing the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan has still not occurred. Towards this objective, it is incumbent on the Committee and its oversight responsibilities to determine what went wrong and how such a catastrophe can be avoided in the future.”
The House Armed Services Committee chairman pointed to omissions in the report and called on Austin to produce all the documents.
“Moreover, the Department’s AAR produced to the House omitted significant portions included in its Table of Contents, including all endnotes and other appendices to the report,” he said. “Additionally, significant redaction of material in the classified report is not explained.
“The Committee relies upon transparency in conducting oversight for the American people, so I hope exclusion of associated documents with the AAR was unintentional and that the Committee can receive an appropriately un-redacted version. Please produce all documents, no later than July 7, 2023, associated with the AAR as listed in the report’s Table of Contents.”
The report released by the White House in April defended the president and tried to pin the blame of the botched withdrawal on the Trump administration.
According to Fox News Digital, a Defense Department spokesperson said “they had nothing to add at this time and that they would respond to Rogers as appropriate.”

Sierra Pacific Windows announced it will be expanding into the Yellowhammer State with a manufacturing plant in Phenix City.
The new plant is 610,000 square feet on a 113-acre campus. The California-based company hopes that the new location will allow it to increase production capacity and more efficiently meet customers’ demands across the country.
In just the last decade alone, Sierra Pacific said demand for its products has multiplied by 10.
“This expansion of our windows manufacturing capacity is a reflection of our confidence that customers value the distinctive product quality and service associated with Sierra Pacific Windows,” said Sierra Pacific Industries CEO Mark Emmerson. “Our unique seed-to-window approach starts by planting trees that take at least 50 years to mature.
“We always take a long-term, sustainable view to business. We also pride ourselves on being a place our employees feel valued for their contributions and stay for long careers.”
Sierra Pacific Windows President Tom Takach said the company was attracted by the access to transportation and the Yellowhammer State’s labor force.
“The attractiveness of Alabama as the right location for our company to advance is undeniable,” he said. “We wanted a location that gives us the room to grow and expand. With our significant and rapidly growing demand for our windows and doors – locating in Phenix City is an obvious choice – from easy access to transportation corridors to the skilled labor forces in the greater Russell County area.”
Phenix City officials were also excited about the new plant.
“I want to welcome Sierra Pacific Windows to Phenix City,” said Mayor Eddie Lowe. “This project is a major deal for our region and we’re very grateful for the confidence that they have placed in our community and in its leadership. We wish them generations of success.”
Phenix City Manager Wallace B. Hunter said he is looking forward to the positive effects the plant will have on the area.
“Sierra Pacific Windows is a top-notch company,” Hunter said. “We’re excited about the positive impacts that they will have on our community. We’ve enjoyed working with them and look forward to helping them meet their present and future goals.”
Alabama Commerce Secretary Greg Canfield touted the positive economic effects of the plant.
“Sierra Pacific will be a vibrant addition to Alabama’s business community, and its investment plans in Phenix City will have a massive economic impact on the entire region,” said Canfield. “It’s great news that this family-owned company is putting down roots in Russell County, and I look forward to seeing it grow and thrive there for many years to come.”
U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers said he was happy with company’s choice to come to his district.
“I am excited to welcome Sierra Pacific to East Alabama,” he said. “This move represents a significant investment in our region, and I am excited to see what they accomplish.”

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is an abysmal failure and President Joe Biden is even worse. Thanks to their treasonous open border policies, our country has become decidedly more dangerous.
Biden ensured this would happen in his first days in office with a set of executive orders that reversed most of President Trump’s border policies. With these actions, he essentially invited the cartels into our country with unfettered access – bringing deadly fentanyl, crime, and human trafficking with them.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I do not believe the Statue of Liberty has “Give me your tired, your poor, your career criminals yearning to fuel the opioid epidemic” inscribed on it.
The fact is that Biden’s border policies enrich the cartels. Smuggling illegal immigrants makes the cartels an estimated $13 billion a year. There have been over 5 million illegal crossings since Biden took office.
Worse still, they’re not just smuggling people across the border.
This year alone, there have been over 14,000 pounds of fentanyl seized at the southern border – more than enough to kill every US citizen. Last year, there were 98 people stopped at the border who were on the terror watchlist. These numbers would be troubling enough if we caught most illegal border crossers.
Yet, according to the best estimates, Border Patrol agents catch about half of those entering the country illegally at the southern border. Still, Secretary Mayorkas insists that his agency maintains operational control of the border. That is a lie.
Now with Title 42 expired, our border will face an even larger surge of illegal migrants due to Biden’s unwillingness to act. I want to be clear – Title 42 is not the sole answer to our country’s border security problem. Border control – including the completion of President Trump’s border wall – is the right answer.
However, the Biden Administration’s far-left policies destabilize our nation instead of
protecting our sovereignty.
House Republicans are using our new majority to come up with real solutions. H.R. 2 is a multi-faceted, common-sense approach to addressing the border crisis. This legislation will immediately give border patrol the tools necessary to gain operational control of the border.
It will finish President Trump’s border wall and strengthen laws to protect children from vile human traffickers.
Make no mistake about it, Joe Biden’s open border policies are a direct threat to our sovereignty, security, rule of law, and children’s futures. House Republican’s H.R. 2 would help seal our border.
Hopefully, Joe Biden will finally put America First and support H.R. 2 as well.

Rogers, who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, criticized the Biden administration during a hearing on the Fiscal Year 2024 Navy budget request.
“The President is requesting a 5 percent increase for the Navy and a 3 percent increase for the Marine Corps,” Rogers said. “Unfortunately, with today’s record level of inflation, those increases don’t go very far. We are seeing that very clearly in the request for shipbuilding. The President is seeking to build a paltry 9 battle force ships in FY24. At the same time, he wants to retire 11. Several of these ships have years of service life remaining. These retirements represent a huge loss of capability, especially for the Marine Corps.”
The congressman explained how one of the administration’s requests could put the Marine Corps “at risk.”
“The President plans to slash the number of amphibs by 10 percent,” he said, “leaving the fleet below the statutory floor of 31. We put 31 into law because that’s what the Marine Corps told us was the bare minimum they needed to successfully carry out their mission. Going below that number invites a tremendous amount of risk.”
Rogers said Biden is not taking the Chinese Communist Party threat seriously.
“While this administration dithers, the CCP is rapidly growing and modernizing its navy,” he said. “It already controls the largest navy in the world. Our fleet of 296 ships was eclipsed years ago by a Chinese fleet of over 350 ships. In two short years, the DoD predicts the CCP will control over 400 battle force ships.
“I don’t understand how this administration can conclude reducing the size of our fleet will somehow deter China.”
He also said there needs to be more focus on the “strike fighter gap.”
“Finally, I’m also concerned about the strike fighter gap,” he said. “It’s not forecasted to close until 2031. But that assumes Congress grants the Navy relief from the statutory requirement to field an air wing for each deployed aircraft carrier. I would inform the Navy that it’s highly unlikely we will grant that relief.
“The Navy should focus on mitigating the fighter gap in the short term by accelerating planned upgrades to our existing fighters, especially the F-35s. They should also expedite the fielding of unmanned collaborative drones and pair them with our existing fleet to enhance capabilities. The point is we should be modernizing and expanding our naval capabilities. We absolutely should not be cutting them.”
Rogers concluded that the U.S. needs to better prepared when it comes to protecting the nation from the Chinese government’s provocations.
“Finally, I want to commend the Commandant on the progress he’s making with Force Design 2030,” he said. “Preparing our Marines to be successful in a conflict with the CCP is critically important. Force Design 2030 will do just that.”

The Biden administration is once again blaming his predecessor for the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. A summary report on the Afghanistan withdrawal was released Thursday, and blamed former President Trump for what took place.
The report claims that Biden’s “choices for how to execute a withdrawal from Afghanistan were severely constrained by conditions created” by Trump.
U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks), who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, criticized the review for trying to “rewrite history.”
https://twitter.com/HASCRepublicans/status/1644111765406359552?s=20
“The public summary on the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal released by the Biden White House today is a spineless piece of fiction,” Rogers said in a press release. “It predictably blames the Trump administration and disgracefully blames senior military advisors and the Intelligence Community for President Biden’s decisions. President Biden conducted this withdrawal, and President Biden needs to accept responsibility for the tragedy that occurred.”
The congressman reiterated that Biden is directly responsible for lives lost in Afghanistan since he’s been in office.
“We know for a fact President Biden’s top military advisors warned him against leaving Afghanistan – he ignored their advice,” he said. “It’s shocking and disgusting that the President is trying to pin the blame for his horrendous failures on our brave men and women in uniform.
“President Biden cannot rewrite history to avoid accountability for his own actions.”
U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) agreed with Rogers and said Biden “created the chaos.”
“Our men and women in uniform on the ground during the withdrawal followed orders and saved lives,” Strong posted on Twitter. “But anyone who wouldn’t call the situation they were handed ‘chaotic’ is kidding themselves. The Biden admin’s decisions created the chaos.”

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) is criticizing the Biden administration over a new Department of Defense (DoD) abortion policy.
Thursday, the Pentagon put out its new plan to pay for the travel of service members who seek an abortion or want to accompany a spouse who is seeking.
Rogers, who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, said this is just another example of Biden putting the “woke” agenda over national security.
“Today, the Biden administration chose to make the Department of Defense an abortion travel agency over a lethal fighting force, said Rogers. “As I have repeatedly told the political leaders of this administration, taking this action jeopardizes congressional authorizations for our warfighters. I am extremely disappointed the Biden administration chose once again to use our military to placate the radical left.”
The congressman also posted a statement on Twitter, calling the President “a disgrace to our nation.”
Our brave military is here to protect our freedom and our nation. It is not meant to advance the woke, Socialist Biden agenda, and it is certainly not meant to pay for abortion on demand. Joe Biden is a disgrace to our nation. https://t.co/VXAyMrm76L
— Mike Rogers (@RepMikeRogersAL) February 17, 2023
In the upper chamber, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville also condemned the new plan and said he will place a hold on all military and civilian nominations before the Senate.
“The Secretary of Defense is following through with his radical plan to facilitate thousands of abortions a year with taxpayer dollars,” Tuberville said in an statement to Fox News Digital. “So, I will follow through with my plan to hold all DoD civilian, flag, and general officer nominations that come before the U.S. Senate.”
The senator made it clear that any changes like this to the DoD should be approved by Congress.
“As I’ve stated, if Secretary Austin wants to change law, he should go through Congress,” he added. “This is an illegal expansion of DoD authority and gross misuse of taxpayer dollars – and I will hold him accountable. The American people want a military focused on national defense, not facilitating a progressive political agenda.”

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers said his position as Armed Services chair will be a help to the U.S. military.
Rogers (R-Saks) spoke to Yellowhammer News on Wednesday, to discuss his new position and the state of Alabama’s role in the nation’s national defense.
Rogers discussed the significance of his new position.
“We stay free and safe because we have got a wonderful military that makes enormous sacrifices for us,” he said. “To know that I’m going to be in a position to help those great Americans do their jobs and have better pay and benefits and housing and equipment is pretty great.”
He also spoke about how Alabama has positioned itself currently in terms of contributions to securing the country and its national defense.
“We are well positioned,” Rogers said. “We are a big contributor. Most people haven’t known until just recent years what a big player we are when it comes to missile defense and space.”
The congressman also talked about the relevance of the Yellowhammer State nationally in terms of space and defense.
“Getting the Space Command headquartered in Huntsville kind of brought attention to that,” he said. “There are only like five states that are real players when it comes to space capabilities, especially national security space.”
When asked about Alabama’s future contributions to the national defense industry, Rogers believed the state will be a major player for multiple reasons.
“Since we have created the Space Force, I expect Alabama’s going to be playing an even bigger role,” he said.
The congressmen expressed hope in the state’s collegiate institutions in producing individuals who he believes will play a significant role in the future of defense in Alabama.
“ I also see us getting more involved in cyber security capabilities,” he said. “We’ve got some great engineering schools in north Alabama and, of course, at the University of Alabama, Auburn , and Tuskegee.
“All of those institutions become part of a larger program to train personnel on active duty, the Guard and Reserves in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.”

Two Republican members of the Alabama congressional delegation, who also sit on the House Armed Services Committee, are criticizing President Biden’s defense budget.
U.S. Reps. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) and Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) joined their Republican colleagues on the committee in putting out a press release today denouncing the proposed defense budget for fiscal year 2023.
Biden released his $5.8 trillion proposed budget last week, which includes $813 billion in defense spending. The president said it was “one of the largest investments in our national security in history.”
The Republican members argue that the proposal is inadequate considering the current threats to national security.
Rogers, the ranking Republican of the House Armed Services Committee, said Biden’s proposed increase isn’t enough.
“Our nation faces unprecedented threats from China and Russia and it’s unconscionable that President Biden has chosen to once again shortchange our warfighters,” Rogers said in the press release. “By failing to account for inflation President Biden’s budget request would leave America weakened and vulnerable.”
He also warned about the looming threats from China.
“In China, Xi Jinping is watching as President Biden continues to falter,” Rogers continued. “In fact, while China has the largest navy in the world and is rapidly expanding their nuclear arsenal – President Biden’s budget request would decommission 24 U.S. Navy ships and cut funding for our own nuclear capabilities.”
The ranking Republican member praised his fellow House colleagues who joined him in calling out the president’s proposal.
“Luckily, Congress calls the shots when it comes to funding our military,” Rogers said. ” I am glad that all Republicans on the House Armed Services Committee are dedicated to fighting for a higher defense topline in the FY23 NDAA that accounts for inflation and ensures our warfighters have what they need to succeed in combat. I look forward to hearing from Secretary Austin and General Milley about the needs of our warfighters, the threats we face, and how Congress can fix President Biden’s inadequate defense budget.”
Brooks concurred with the other members and said the budget just reveals Biden’s misplaced priorities.
“Joe Biden would rather pay too many Americans to live off welfare and mooch off the labors of hard-working American families, or pay illegal aliens to break our laws, than adequately fund America’s national security, the federal government’s #1 duty,” Brooks said in the release. “Biden’s proposed $773 billion defense budget is at least a 4% cut in real dollar spending power (after adjusting for “the official” 8% inflation rate). Hence, Biden’s proposed defense cuts encourage America’s geo-political foes to engage in nefarious military attacks around the world, thereby risking war. Biden’s poorly thought out real dollar defense spending cuts must be stopped.”
The Huntsville congressman put out a statement on Twitter as well, saying, “I’m extremely perturbed that Biden would rather pay Americans to live off welfare or pay illegal aliens to break our laws than adequately fund America’s national security. Biden’s real dollar defense cuts must be stopped.”
As a @HASCRepublicans member, I’m extremely perturbed that Biden would rather pay Americans to live off welfare or pay illegal aliens to break our laws than adequately fund America’s national security. Biden’s real dollar defense cuts must be stopped. https://t.co/GGlFVENjJ8

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has joined Alabama Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) in objecting to the competitive bid process that resulted in pioneering opportunities for two Alabama aerospace companies.
In a letter dated February 4 and addressed to Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson, Feinstein and a colleague called for modifications to a process which resulted in major contracts for United Launch Alliance (ULA) and Alabama’s newest aerospace company, Blue Origin.

In October, the U.S. Air Force announced that it had awarded Alabama rocket-builder United Launch Alliance (ULA) nearly $1 billion to develop a launch vehicle for future national security space missions. But a recent objection to the agreement by one member of Alabama’s congressional delegation could be an obstacle to the large Alabama employer’s future participation.
In a letter to the secretary of the Air Force, Congressman Mike Rogers (AL-3) asked for alterations to the competitive bid process that resulted in Alabama’s ULA receiving the go-ahead to manufacture the Vulcan Centaur at its Decatur plant.
The competitive bid process had been put in place as a response to a congressional mandate to move away from foreign-made rocket engines. ULA’s award under that process was $967 million for development of the Vulcan Centaur which has been dubbed a “next-generation” rocket by the company.

In separate interviews with NBC 13 posted this week, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) and his Democratic opponent, Mallory Hagan, offered opposing viewpoints on border security.
While Rogers supports building the wall proposed by President Donald Trump, his challenger does not, even going as far as to say, “I don’t really necessarily think that border security is our problem.”
As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security since it was made permanent in 2005, Rogers has first-hand experience and in-depth knowledge of the subject.
“The only way we are going to … be able to stem the flow of bad actors into this country on the southern border is to build a barrier,” Rogers outlined. “You know, the wall is the term used, but it’s not technically a wall [in its entirety]. It’s a series of fences, electronic monitors – aerial and ground – as well as personnel.” (more…)
Jalen Drummond, who graduated from the University of Alabama this past May and is a native of the state, is facing racial abuse from the “tolerant left” after he interned for President Donald Trump over the summer.
In a recent viral post from from the liberal “comedy” website “Funny or Die,” Drummond’s picture was replaced with the fictional character from the movie “Get Out,” which won the Academy Award last year with its take on racism in modern America.
On Saturday, Drummond reaffirmed that he considered it “an incredible honor and privilege serving as one of [President Donald Trump’s] White House interns this summer,” while calling out the shameful behavior by Funny or Die and individuals who shared their original post. (more…)
The defense spending bill passed Thursday by the House of Representatives includes a provision aggressively pushed by an Alabama congressman — a space force.
But don’t expect Captain Kirk to be leading the Enterprise in missions beyond the solar system anytime soon. Those kinds of operations are still the stuff of science fiction.
The idea backed by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) is to create a separate space force — which would have equal footing with the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines — using existing personnel currently working under the Air Force banner.
Rogers said he has heard jokes about what uniforms officers in the space force might wear, but he added that space operations tend to get buried under other priorities and that America, as a result, risks falling behind its competitors.
“All I’m talking about is national security space satellites,” he said in a recent interview. “What we’re proposing does not affect or deal with intelligence community satellites or the commercial satellites.”
