One Alabama Sheriff is thanking President Donald Trump for making his job easier by securing the southern border and cracking down on drug trafficking.

Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd spoke at the Republican Study Committee roundtable Tuesday, which was meant to highlight the accomplishment of the Trump administration before the State of the Union address.

Byrd was invited by U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) to speak at the hearing and to be his guest for the President’s speech.

“Since the Trump Administration, it has been a lot easier to be in law enforcement, I’ll be honest with you,” Byrd said. “Our crime is all dealing with methamphetamine, and it all comes from the border, and you got to tighten up that border. We’ve seen a decrease, my narcotics guys, they’re not getting as easy busts as they used to. So that means it’s working, and I’m proud…this is my first term sheriff.”

Byrd also joked with the congressman a little bit before praising his leadership as well.

“And I can’t say anything good about Barry,” he quipped. “He knows I love him, and he knows it. We all grew up down there on the same street, so we fight for our families and our people.”

“I’ve got 43 deputies under the the 1033 program,” he added. “I’ve got a couple helicopters, some military equipment to keep my guys safe, which keeps, you know, keeps them so they come home and see their family. Like I said, the administration we got now was working, and I’m proud to work with Barry, and he’s doing a good job. And what we got going on in a little old, sleepy county in southern Alabama.”

Moore has been a major supporter of the Trump administration’s effort to secure the border.

“Thousands of individuals were taken too soon due to the open border policies of the Biden Administration,” Moore said Monday on X. “Thankful for [the President] and his administration for ending the open border madness and keeping the American people safe!”

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) thinks it’s past time for Congress to close a loophole in the law that incentivizes the mass illegal migration of unaccompanied alien children to the southern border and leads to them being released into the U.S.

Britt discussed the issue during the Senate Judiciary Border Security and Immigration Subcommittee Hearing titled, “Another Biden Blunder: Missing Unaccompanied Alien Children and Criminal Sponsors.”

“I believe we need to amend Section 235 of the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008, which is primarily the loophole that is used in our laws to incentivize the illegal [migration] of UAC to our southern border,” Britt said. “I’ve been proud to cosponsor a number of bills that will actually do just that.”

https://x.com/SenKatieBritt/status/1968702662557274461

Witnesses at the hearing included former Chief Border Patrol Agent Chris Clem who provided insight into how loopholes allowing known gang members to enter and be released into the United States can be closed. He also discussed how Congress can take steps in this area of the law to prioritize the safety of American citizens.

“Once we’ve done an initial screening to ensure that [UAC are] not, you know, trafficked or not victims of any kind of abuse,” Clem said. “But once that (is) cleared, we should treat them and get them back to their home country as quickly as possible … I think that would close a loophole and … come up with a more clear and direct process for someone to lawfully immigrate to the United States versus sending their child in here and hoping they can reconnect later.”

Britt explained the staggering numbers of UACs they’ve seen at the southern border in recent years.

“More than 400,000 UACs were released to sponsors by the Biden-Harris Administration, which is a 100% increase compared to that of the first Trump Administration,” she said. “Most of them were teenage boys. And if you look at it, nearly 70% of UACs referred to HHS were 15 years of age or older … The (House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security and Enforcement) report also found that HHS did not have a policy to refer known gang members to the Justice Department.”

“It’s worth noting and remembering that the Biden-Harris Administration released a 17-year-old MS13 gang member who had entered the country as a UAC and then went on to sexually assault and murder 20-year-old Kayla Hamilton,” she added.

Senator Britt has long voiced disapproval of the Biden-Harris Administration’s handling of UAC and has advocated for reforms to protect children from potential abuses and exploitation. She previously supported a Congressional Review Act resolution that would overturn a Biden-era rule that perpetuated the endangerment of unaccompanied migrant children. Senator Britt also signed a letter urging the Biden-Harris administration to prevent UAC from being placed into the hands of unvetted sponsors who often abuse and exploit them.

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is defending Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from those who are comparing them to ‘Nazis.’

President Donald Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan said this week that attacks against ICE officers and federal agents conducting immigration enforcement are up nearly 700% compared to the same time last year.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 10 individuals have been charged with shooting a police officer in the neck and opening fire on other correctional officers outside the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, on the Fourth of July.

Tuberville, who was joined by U.S. Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) discussed the issue Tuesday on Fox Business.

RELATED: ‘Lock her up’: Tuberville calls out LA Mayor Karen Bass for trying to stop a federal immigration raid

“Well, first of all, it was a disaster, what the Biden administration did for four years, open borders, it was insane,” Tuberville said.

“Senator Scott and I went down several times. You can’t put a number on what is number one going to cost the American taxpayers over the next years to get all these illegals back out of the country, but the law and order in this country…If you can be educated, you can have money, you can have everything you want, but as an American citizen, if you don’t have safe streets and neighborhoods, you don’t have anything, and so we have to take our country back.”

The attacks on ICE agents are a DIRECT RESULT of Democrats’ radical, extreme, and VIOLENT language.

— Coach Tommy Tuberville (@SenTuberville) July 9, 2025

Tuberville blasted some of his Democratic colleagues over their extreme rhetoric against ICE agents in recent weeks.

The Democrats did this on purpose. It was all by design,” he argued. “They want to run over our law and order. They want social justice people running our police departments. That’s not going to happen. I’m all for ice. If you need to defend yourself, shoot back. Do not take this from these people. Do not take it from the Democrats. We have to take our country and neighborhood back.”

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) is pushing Congress to pass legislation that will facilitate the completion of the wall at the southern border while also minimizing the cost of the project for American taxpayers.

The WALL Act, reintroduced and sponsored by the Alabama lawmaker, would appropriate $25 billion to finish building the wall without raising taxes on U.S. citizens or increasing the national debt. It would be funded through the closure of loopholes and the elimination of taxpayer-funded entitlements and tax benefits for people who are in the United States illegally. Additionally, the bill would impose monetary fines on people who come into the country illegally or overstay their visas.

RELATED: Sen. Katie Britt: ‘A nation without borders is not a nation at all’

On Wednesday, in an op-ed for the Washington Times, the Senator argued that now is the time to pass her bill.

“As President Donald Trump begins his second term in the White House,” Britt wrote, “there is one infrastructure project that towers above the rest: the construction of a wall on our southern border.”

The American people have spoken: It’s time to finish building the wall. My WALL Act would appropriate $25B for border security without raising taxes on U.S. citizens or adding to our debt.

Read my @WashTimes column: https://t.co/XqpFx2BQ3Y

— Senator Katie Boyd Britt (@SenKatieBritt) April 2, 2025

Britt said one of the main reasons President Trump was elected to a second term was to secure the border and stop illegal immigration.

“When the American people sent President Trump back to the Oval Office in November, they delivered a verdict,” she argued. “They let lawmakers in Washington, D.C., know that they would no longer tolerate elected officials neglecting the needs of the people they’re meant to represent.”

The Senator believes her bill gives Trump the necessary tools to fulfill one of his main campaign promises.

“It is long past time to finish building the wall, and this bill would put us on the path to doing just that,” she said. “It would appropriate the funding necessary to complete construction of our border wall and allow President Trump to do so without raising taxes on American citizens or increasing our national debt by a single cent.”

“For many Americans, the word ‘infrastructure’ may conjure images of road maintenance and bridge construction, and to be sure, these are critically important projects,” Britt added. “But what the WALL Act demonstrates is that the strength of our country’s infrastructure is also the strength of our national security. Turning the WALL Act into law will ensure both are strong for years to come.”

U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Monrovia) is calling for the use of AI and drones to deal with the drug problem at the southern border.

During a Tuesday House Homeland Security Committee hearing about using unmanned aircraft systems for DHS, Strong discussed the use of drones and AI to target drug cartels who bring fentanyl over the border.

“In the previous administration, for every drone flown by border patrol, the Mexican cartel flew 17,” Strong explained, “many times entering us airspace to land and offload pounds of fentanyl in an attempt to kill a generation of Americans.”

The congressman said that much of the technology that could be used to stop drones at the border is being developed in Huntsville.

“What is most interesting in Huntsville, Alabama, we have the proven technology to neutralize that drone threat. We can intercept and do forensics, we can block their flight, or we can drop and destroy them. Our time is now.”

Jerry Hendrix, who is the Director of UAS Programs at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, testified in front of the committee and answered questions by Strong and other members of Congress about this issue of drones.

Hendrix said there needs to be some regulatory reforms dealing with use of drones for national security.

“If you look at the county UAS side, for example, we deal with, and I mentioned these in the testimony, the different types of regulations that need to be adjusted to allow us to do a full set of testing in the county UAS area, whether it also be detection or mitigation,” Hendrix said.

President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order designating the drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall is calling on the Trump administration to close a loophole in the law that is used by drug traffickers to flood deadly fentanyl into the U.S.

Marshall joined a coalition of 25 state attorneys general asking U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) Kristi Noem and Acting Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Pete Flores for greater scrutiny of an import pilot program called Entry Type 86, which they argue allows small packages to enter the U.S. with minimal customs screening.

“Fentanyl is devastating communities across Alabama and the nation, and we must take decisive action to shut down every avenue that allows this deadly drug to enter our country. Loopholes like Entry Type 86 pose a serious threat to public safety, making it easier for traffickers to smuggle fentanyl and other dangerous substances across the border,” Marshall said.

“I am confident that the Trump Administration will take immediate steps to close this gap and strengthen border security to protect American lives.”

The attorneys general explain in the letter that the Entry Type 86 Program has far exceeded its “original scope.”

RELATED: Rex Reynolds, Dale Strong join Governor Ivey in effort to stem fentanyl epidemic

“Entry Type 86 now accounts for 75% of all de minimis goods entering the United States, with shipments increasing from 153 million in 2015 to more than 1.2 billion in 2024,” the letter stated. “Any surge of this magnitude requires further study, especially when it comes to potential challenges within our customs enforcement system. It raises serious concerns about the flood of deadly drugs coming into our country through this program, along with other issues including noncompliance, supply chain vulnerabilities, and the circumvention of duty and regulatory obligations.”

Alabama joined the Kentucky-led letter alongside attorneys general from Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

“We as state attorneys general stand ready to work together with you to cut off all avenues for the entry of fentanyl and other potentially lethal drugs into our communities. The lives of those we all serve will be saved as a result,” the letter concluded.

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) blasted several Democratic mayors on Wednesday during a House Oversight Committee hearing for giving criminal illegal aliens “safe harbor” in their cities.

The mayors on hand to discuss sanctuary city policies included Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

“I just want to respond about crimes committed by people here legally,” Palmer said to the mayors at the hearing. “Every crime committed by someone in the United States illegally is a crime that would not have been committed Lincoln Riley, Ruby, Garcia, Rachel Moran, Joycelyn Nunga Ray, the woman set on fire in the New York subway, these are all assaults, rapes, murders, and other crimes that would not have taken the lives of these people if those people were not here illegally, they were given safe harbor.”

The congressman then asked the city leaders if they understood that their actions could be violating their oaths to the Constitution.

“When you declared your city sanctuary cities, you did so illegally,” Palmer argued. “Do you understand that? We’re disagreeing with the law. It’s against the law to give sanctuary to people who have committed felonies, and it’s a felony to cross the border illegally. You gave sanctuary to people who are here illegally. You violated your oath to uphold the Constitution because of the Supremacy Clause.”

State Rep. Ben Robbins (R-Sylacauga) is making the case that his legislation requiring employers to disclose foreign worker immigration has the support of the majority of Alabamians.

Robbins introduced the “Workforce Transparency Act,” HB302, which would regulate labor brokers recruiting foreign workers to Alabama by requiring registration with the Department of Workforce, mandatory use of E-Verify and compliance with sponsorship reporting requirements.

RELATED: Alabama House introduces anti-illegal immigration crackdown in new legislative package

The proposal also extends enforcement authority to the Secretary of Workforce and Attorney General, imposing fines, penalties and potential business revocation for noncompliance.

Robbins discussed the bill Friday on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program.”

“It’s going to be focusing on really two things,” Robbins explained. “One is, as the name says, our transparency with our workforce, who’s here, who is bringing immigrant labor into the state. And the other prong of the bill is, we’re going to make sure that we do not provide benefits to immigrants that they shouldn’t receive. And if we gave them benefits that they shouldn’t have received, we are going to allow our attorney general to sue their sponsors and recoup all monies paid by the state to them.”

RELATED: Fox News highlights Alabama lawmakers going on anti-illegal immigration blitz

The state lawmaker argued that this is not just about enforcing immigration law, but it’s about being fiscally responsible.

“I think that what it really is is just being good stewards of our tax dollars,” he said. “If someone, whether they be legal, illegal immigrant, non-immigrant… we shouldn’t be just giving any kind of government benefit away just because. We need to make sure that you actually, under the rules, are entitled to receive it. And we’re going to start using [something] called the Saves Program. It’s kind of like E-verify, but it’s for government agencies, where you would put in someone’s information and make sure that they are a legal immigrant before you give them Medicaid or before you give them food stamps.”

Robbins also pushed back against the argument that enforcing immigration law will hurt the state’s economy.

“I’d say that we’re not dependent on illegal immigrant,” he said. “I know the day laborers we have out there, what manufacturing relies…I’ve worked really closely with [agricultural] interests and manufacturing interests. And you know, as long as they are using legal immigrants, people that have a legal right to be here, or they’re using an American citizen, they have nothing to worry about or be concerned about. And I think that in terms of dependency, yeah, there are some industries that might be solely relying on cheap labor, but I don’t think that it is as widespread as people believe. I think that it’s just some people exploiting the system.”

State Sen. Garlan Gudger (R-Cullman) thinks the Alabama Legislature will act quickly to help President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda on immigration.

Trump has promised to crack down on illegal immigration in the U.S. as soon as he takes office. Gov. Kay Ivey has committed Alabama in supporting Trump’s plans.

Gudger, who recently was elected by Alabama Senate Republicans to be the new Senate pro-tem, discussed the issue recently on Alabama Public Television’s “Capitol Journal.”

“[T]he other issue is that you start looking at the federal government, and what’s President Trump going to do when he takes his administration over, and in his transition,” Gudger said. “He keeps talking about immigration. I think that Alabama needs to do [its] part on the immigration reform. And I think we will be having some of those bills coming up pretty quick as soon as we open up session.”

Gudger emphasized that every state is now a border state because of the Biden administration’s failed policies.

RELATED: Steve Marshall: Haitian immigrants in Alabama ‘a legitimate concern’

“I think we have to work with the federal government to make sure that we don’t overstep or duplicate services that they’ve already put in place,” he explained. “Our job is to make sure what is best for Alabama, and as we say, all states are border states now, because it’s been so long and so many people have crossed the border. Obviously, they’re throughout the state of Alabama. How do we protect the citizens of Alabama? How do we make sure that the right people are here and that the non violent criminals are still here?”

The lawmaker said this is not being against all immigrants, just those who have entered the country illegally.

“Obviously, we want the right people that have went through the immigration process and got their work visas or green cards to be able to stay here,” he argued. “That’s not what we’re talking about. We’re talking about illegal immigration. And so from that, I think you’re going to see reform for the right purposes and to make sure that we take care of the right people getting out of our state to help protect the citizens of Alabama.”

Gov. Kay Ivey says she wants to help President-elect Donald Trump deal with the illegal immigration crisis after he’s inaugurated.

Ivey joined 25 other Republican governors in a statement showing support for Trump’s plan to deport illegal immigrants.

“As Republican governors, we stand united in support of President Donald Trump’s unwavering commitment to make America safe again by addressing the illegal immigration crisis and deporting illegal immigrants who pose a threat to our communities and national security,” the governors said. “We mobilized state resources, including law enforcement and National Guard units, to protect Americans from disastrous open border policies and prevent illegal immigration from overwhelming our country.”

Trump’s “border-czar” Tom Homan has promised to carry out one of the largest mass deportations of illegal immigrants in the history of the country.

“President Trump and I have been clear on every interview I do, that right out of the gate, we’re going to be prioritizing public safety threats,” Homan said. “Any elected official who wants to prevent the removal of public safety threats from their communities, especially if they’re illegal aliens, is not doing their job. Because their job, their number one responsibility to their communities is the protection of that community, the safety of that community.”

The governors believe cracking down on illegal immigration will help “make America safe again.”

“Together, we will continue to defend the American people, uphold the rule of law, and ensure our nation remains safe and secure for future generations,” they said. “The time for action is now. Together, we will make America safe again.”

The statement comes as some Democratic governors across the country have been openly critical of the plan.

“I will not tolerate misguided policies that don’t actually help with the critical work that’s happening here, that you’re seeing here today, that actually keeps our communities safe and secure,” Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs said. “I will not tolerate terrorizing communities or threatening Arizonans.”

Other governors who joined Ivey in the statement are Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin.

Illegal immigrant Jose Ibarra was found guilty of murdering Augusta University student Laken Riley Wednesday, and was sentenced to life in prison.

Athens-Clarke County Superior Court Judge Patrick Haggard found Ibarra guilty of 10 total counts, including one count of malice murder, three counts of felony murder, one count of kidnapping, one count of aggravated assault with intent to rape, one count of aggravated battery, one count of hindering a 911 call, one count of tampering with evidence and one count of being a “peeping Tom.”

Ibarra, who pleaded not guilty, is from Venezuela and was in the U.S. illegally at the time of the brutal murder.

Alabama’s political leaders reacted to the verdict, blaming the Biden administration’s open border policies allowing this brutal murderer to stay in the country. U.S. Reps. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) and Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) said Riley would still be alive if it weren’t for the border crisis.

U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Monrovia) blasted the Biden-Harris administration border policies Tuesday for causing a crisis for unaccompanied alien minors in the U.S.

Strong, who sits on the House Homeland Security Committee, made the comment in response to what he heard during a hearing on “Trafficked, Exploited, and Missing: Migrant Children Victims of the Biden-Harris Administration.”

“Just left a [Homeland GOP] Subcommittee hearing on trafficked, exploited, and missing migrant children under the Biden-Harris Administration,” Strong said on X. “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have failed countless unaccompanied alien minors, and their reckless border policies are to blame.”

The hearing included testimony from witnesses and whistleblowers within the administration who are sounding the alarms about the issue.

“Inside this invasion, the unspoken evil of child trafficking and, more specifically, child sex trafficking, has flourished. At the end of this current administration, the number of children trafficked will have grown to over 550,000 UACs. This horrific number of children will have been arrested, released into America and then lost,” J.J. Carrell Retired Deputy Patrol Agent in Charge U.S. Border Patrol testified at the hearing.

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) thinks the strong victory by former President Donald Trump in the Presidential election was a rebuke to the radical left in America.

Trump won the electoral college and popular vote on Tuesday, while his party also regained control of the Senate.

Palmer discussed the election results Friday on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program.”

“Well, I think there’s a simple answer to this, and that is the Democratic Party has become the party of extremes,” Palmer argued. “I mean, they’re the party that thinks it’s okay for men to play women’s sports, to go in women’s restrooms and showers, and that children can be given gender altering drugs without a parent’s knowledge. I mean, [this is] the Democratic Party that thought [it] was a good idea to leave our borders open and have this mass migration that has taken place over the last three years and nine months. And so they’ve become the party of extremes. And this is not a nation of extremists. We’re a center right nation.”

The congressman said Americans want “common sense” governance.

“What you saw with the breaking of the blue wall, the tearing down of the so called blue wall, is that our country, I think, wants common sense government,” he said. “They want national security. They want to get inflation down. They want to go about their lives, make a living, raise their kids and be able to afford to continue to live in this country.”

Palmer explained what he hopes Congress will be able to accomplish if Republicans win back the majority in the U.S. House.

“I think we’re going to pass a boatload of resolutions rolling back regulations. We did that the first time Trump was elected,” he said. “I think the first 14 or 15 bills we passed were all Congressional Review Act bills. We’re going to immediately work with the White House,  with the Trump administration, to secure the border….And we’re going to address energy costs. Energy is the most inflationary commodity in the entire economy. Everything that people use, eat, or consume has an energy cost… And we’re also working to make permanent the tax cuts and Jobs Act, which is set to expire next year. If that were to expire, it would result in about a $4 trillion tax increase over the next 10 years.”

Palmer also said the election was a condemnation of the mainstream media in the country.

“I just think it’s the extremist positions that they took in the rhetoric,” he explained. “You had Kamala and her surrogates out calling Trump Hitler and saying that this was a threat to democracy. There were two assassination attempts on him. And I think so largely because of this insane rhetoric, and people didn’t buy that. You had every major network outside of Fox, every major mainstream media on board with them. It was like free advertising for her, yet you saw a mandate election.”

U.S. Senator Katie Britt criticized Democrats in the Senate Monday for blocking the Laken Riley Act from moving forward in the upper chamber. An illegal immigrant accused of killing a nursing student in Georgia, Laken Riley, will be tried later this month after his attorneys attempted to delay proceedings in the investigation.

“The first action the Senate should take when we reconvene is passing the bipartisan Laken Riley Act,” Britt (R-Montgomery) said. “No family should endure such heartbreak due to failed border policies. It’s past time to put Americans’ safety first & pass this bill.”

Britt introduced the bill earlier this year that would require U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to arrest illegal aliens who commit theft, burglary, larceny, or shoplifting offenses and would mandate that these aliens are detained until they are removed from the United States so they cannot reoffend and commit further crimes.

RELATED: Katie Britt slams Bill Clinton’s fake narrative on Laken Riley’s tragic death and Biden-Harris border failures

“As America watches this trial unfold, I am once again calling on Senate Democrats to pass the bipartisan Laken Riley Act,” Britt added in a statement. “Laken’s death was preventable, but President Biden and Vice President Harris chose mass migration over the safety and security of the American people.”

The legislation would also ensure that States have standing to bring civil actions against federal officials who refuse to enforce immigration law or who violate the law.

“Meanwhile, Senate Democrats have enabled their dangerous open-border policies and blocked our efforts to pass the Laken Riley Act,” Britt said. “There is no responsibility more important than keeping the American people safe, and I remain committed to passing this bill named in Laken’s honor to ensure more families are spared this type of unthinkable tragedy.”

Senate Democrats have twice now blocked passage of this law.

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville criticized Vice President Kamala Harris’ trip to the southern border Friday as too little too late, and the first one in over three years, amid an illegal immigration and border security crisis.

“For 3 1/2 years, [Kamala Harris] has served as border czar while 10 MILLION+ illegals have invaded our country,” Tuberville (R-Auburn) posted. “Now she thinks she can erase her terrible record with a photo-op. She must think the American people are stupid.”

Harris has promised to sign the “bipartisan” border bill that was blocked by several Republican Senators earlier this year.

“He killed a bill that would have actually been a solution, because he wants to run on a problem, instead of fixing a problem,” she told MSNBC in an interview this week.

Tuberville said he thinks that legislation would have worsened the border crisis.

“That bipartisan bill was a disaster for the American people and the border,” he argued. “We do not need a bill that’s going to allows 5,000 people a day to come in. They’re trying to put lipstick on this pig. She does not know what she’s doing. She doesn’t know how to do it. She’s not qualified to do it. And we dang sure don’t need anybody that’s been in there for four years that’s got us in all this trouble.”

State Sen. Wes Kitchens (R-Arab) recently visited the U.S. southern border with a group of fellow elected officials to witness firsthand the ongoing immigration and border crisis.

The state lawmakers and Marshall County Sheriff Phil Sims attended a Border School in McAllen, Texas along with sheriffs and legislators from 20 states in an intensive, multi-day program aimed at addressing the pressing issues at the southern border.

The program featured speakers from around the nation and site visits in the Texas border town. Notable among the speakers was Michael Banks, widely referred to as the Texas Border Czar, who shared details on state programs that have helped reduce border crossings in Texas. Despite these efforts, border crossings have shifted westward, placing additional pressure on other states.

Kitchens was joined by fellow Marshall County lawmakers, including State Reps. Brock Colvin (R-Albertville) and Jeana Ross (R-Arab), as well as fellow State Sens. Chris Elliott (R-Josephine), April Weaver (R-Briarfield), Lance Bell (R-Pell City), and Keith Kelly (R-Anniston).

Kitchens discussed why he decided to take the trip on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program.”

“It seems like every week there’s a new area that pops up that’s facing these issues,” Kitchens said. “You know, in Marshall County, we’ve had an immigration issue for 20 or 30 years now, but over the past few years, since the Biden Harris administration, those numbers have just gone through the roof and and it’s not just here in Marshall County. I mean, we talk about Athens, we talk about Sylacauga down around enterprise. I mean, it really is. It’s affecting every corner of the state now.”

RELATED: Steve Marshall: Haitian immigrants in Alabama ‘a legitimate concern’

Kitchens explained where they were seen the influx of Haitian immigrants coming into the country, which has created issues recently in Alabama.

“There were a lot of Haitian people that were coming across the border in McAllen. We were in McAllen, Texas, in that area, which is the Rio Grande Valley region,” he explained. “The border is broken down into multiple regions with Border Patrol. Of course, Texas has done a great job in trying to curb it, and kind of pushed it a little bit further west, towards states like California, but there were still a lot of Haitians coming across, and they come in through the refugee resettlement program. So they’re coming in, they’re getting benefits from the federal government…but they’re able to come in and they give them a court date.”

While many of the issues rest squarely on the federal government, the Alabama Legislature should work on passing bills that protect the people of the state when they reconvene for the 2025 legislative session in February, Kitchens said.

“I think a lot of it does come down to November,” he said. “And I hate to say that, but there are some things that we’re already talking about at the state level, we’re looking at having some bills and seeing what can be done. Texas has a very strong bill right now that’s going through the legal challenges, so we’ll see what happens with that. If it’s something that we can mirror here in the State of Alabama… And I’ve already reached out with our attorneys down in Montgomery, and we’re looking at things that we can mold into Alabama law that we definitely I think will be seen coming up this next legislative session.”

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) blamed the Biden-Harris administration border policies for the overdose deaths of thousands of young people in the country due to fentanyl.

“We are losing thousands of young people to the illicit fentanyl pouring across the Biden-Harris open border,” Moore said.

During a hearing Wednesday, the congressman, who is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, questioned Homeland Security Investigations Executive Associate Director Katrina Berger on the need to prevent fentanyl from pouring across the Biden-Harris open border.

“One hundred and ten thousand people in the United States died from fentanyl overdoses last year. I just attended a funeral on Monday, Moore said. “I come from a fairly small town, and this young man [who passed away] graduated with my daughter. I’ve attended a lot of these funerals. We are losing young people who think they are buying Xanax or vape pods, but they are actually laced with fentanyl. Why are we losing the battle to save our young people in America, what can we do to help you win it, and what are the issues that keep you awake at night?”

Berger responded by saying the issue keeps her “awake at night.”

“Thank you sir for the question,” Berger said. “Certainly, the fentanyl epidemic does keep me awake at night. We dedicate a lot of resources government-wide to combat these organizations that bring fentanyl into our communities. I think we spoke previously about Title 21 authority, any of these poly-criminal organizations, they are not just trafficking fentanyl into the country, but also trafficking humans and weapons.”

U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) spoke from the floor of Congress to say that recent actions taken by Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen reveals why Congress should pass laws to make it harder for illegal immigrants to register to vote.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson failed to get a funding package through Wednesday that would have included the SAVE Act if it passed. Aderholt voted in favor of the bill that would require proof of citizenship to register to vote.

Aderholt spoke on the floor of the House in support of the bill, pointing to current cases in Alabama that prove the need for the legislation.

https://x.com/Robert_Aderholt/status/1836514722620887449

“The rhetoric that surrounds this bill is that it fixes a problem that does not exist,” Aderholt said. “Well my answer is simple. Come to Alabama’s Fourth Congressional District where just last week an illegal immigrant pleaded guilty to identity theft and voter fraud after it was discovered that she illegally voted in at least four U.S. elections.”

A 42-year-old illegal immigrant from Guatemala living in Alabama was charged earlier this month by the U.S. Department of Justice for illegally assuming a U.S. citizen’s identity and using it to vote in multiple elections.

Aderholt praised recent efforts by Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen, who announced the removal of thousands of potential illegal immigrants from the state’s voter rolls.

“And just last month, our Secretary of State from the state of Alabama, Wes Allen, found at least 3,000 non-citizens who were registered to vote in the state of Alabama and removed them from the voting rolls. Mr. Speaker, these people should have never been allowed to register in the first place.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) said Thursday that Democrats will not support any funding bill that includes the SAVE Act policy riders.

U.S. Senator Katie Britt took to the floor of the Senate Wednesday with Republican colleagues to clearly depict the hypocrisy of Democrats on a range of policy issues, from securing the southern border and stopping illegal immigration, to increasing domestic energy production and lowering costs for Americans.

“Today, we’re giving Senate Democrats a very clear choice,” Britt (R-Montgomery) said on the Senate floor before trying to pass several bills by unanimous consent.

“Now watch what happens next very closely. Let’s see how they answer these questions. Do they support building a border wall or will they block building a border wall? Do they want to spend taxpayer funds on keeping Americans and legal residents safe or do they want to keep those taxpayer funds funding illegal border crossers.”

https://x.com/SenateGOP/status/1836458948255207634

Senate Democrats blocked her attempt to pass the Wall Act, which spends billions of dollars in funding for the border wall. She then tried to pass the Laken Riley Act, named after a nursing student killed by an illegal immigrant early this year, which would crack down on crime caused by illegal aliens. She also tried to pass legislation that would increase fracking in the country.

Britt is trying to force the issue because Vice President Kamala Harris has seemingly flip-flopped on the ideas when it comes to border security.

“Here we have today a fracking bill that has been put on the floor and yet blocked by the Democrats,” she said after the bills were blocked. “We have a bill here, just now, closing asylum loopholes, helping unaccompanied children get back to their family, but that’s been blocked by Democrats. Earlier you saw us put a bill on the floor that would help us build a barrier on the southern border, but yet that was blocked by Democrats.”

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said firmly on Thursday that Alabamians have a right to be concerned about the surge of Haitian immigrants in areas across the state.

“I think that Americans have been struggling with and concerned about it for quite some time,” Marshall said, “and that is this increased flow across the borders, whether they are paroled through a program that’s being used in an improper way, whether they are seeking asylum, as we understand many of the Haitians are. This is a significant issue, and not only as it involves communities understanding what it means for public safety, but this is a great strain on public resources.”

Marshall said his office continues to investigate the matter, and explained what is causing the surge of specifically Haitian migrants coming to state’s like Alabama.

“We are definitely learning more every day,” he explained, “being in touch with some of our federal partners to understand a little bit about why, but it’s a legitimate concern, and I think it’s something that people need to be paying attention.”

RELATED: State Rep. Robbins: Mayorkas ‘created panic’ and ‘confusion’ for not informing Alabamians of Haitian refugee influx

Marshall discussed the situation Thursday on FM Talk 106.5’s “The Jeff Poor Show.”

“I don’t know that we’re getting satisfactory answers,” he added, “but we’re at least being given some understanding as the vehicle through which, particularly the Haitian community, are arriving, and that’s really more an asylum and parole than it is, say, illegally crossing across the porous border in Mexico.”

Marshall pointed out that he has been joining with other attorneys general across the country in fighting against the president’s immigration policies.

“We have fought, I mean, almost just since day one of the Biden administration, multiple efforts they’ve had around immigration clearly going beyond the bounds of programs that were established by Congress, exceeding the authority that’s been given to them to make decisions that they are not lawfully entitled to do,” he said. “But yet, it doesn’t mean that we don’t recognize and see the need to be able to continue to be aggressive on that front.”

Last month, Marshall County residents took notice of suspicious drop-off patterns in charter busses that were later confirmed to be transporting Haitian immigrants to work at a food processing facility. An almost identical situation involving Haitian immigrants began publicly unfolding in Sylacauga last week.

A city council meeting in Sylacauga was ended early by city leaders last week after members of the community continued to ask about the influx of new immigrants in the city.

On Thursday, Attorney General Marshall concluded that the immigration crisis is just another reason to vote against Kamala Harris for President.

“This is where elections matter, and to the extent that we didn’t understand it completely, I think the debate showed it again the other night,” he said, “where you have a declared candidate for president who said that she wanted to not only encourage illegal immigration, but also, you know, provide gender changing surgeries for those who come into this country unlawfully. I mean, the insanity of that should not be surprising when we see what’s going on in the number of people that have come into this country,” Marshall said.

State Rep. Ben Robbins (R-Sylacauga) is demanding answers from the Department of Homeland Security about the “policies and procedures of relocating Haitian refugees to Alabama.”

The issue gained statewide attention after videos began to circulate on social media showing immigrants being transported via bus to live in in Marshall County. Robbins sent a letter for DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Thursday about the recent influx of Haitian refugees seen by Sylacauga residents.

“Your failure to inform our rural community before dropping off immigrants has created panic and confusion,” Robbins said. “Residents are seeking answers to basic questions, such as why did the immigrants appear in Sylacauga, Alabama, how many immigrants are here, where are the immigrants working and where are they living within the community. Due to your agency’s ineptitude to relay any information, local leaders are helpless. These inefficient policies have caused fear, which threatens the peace and tranquility of our small town.”

The state lawmaker also expressed concerned about the state’s ability in being able to handle surge of new immigrants.

“Further, rural Alabama does not have the support services nor the resources to house a wave of immigrants. We have a housing shortage,” he argued. “Additionally, there is no support system in our community for Haitian Creole speaking individuals including assistance in our schools for non-English speakers. As such, your organization has failed the local community and the refugees.”

Robbins told Mayorkas that Alabamians want answers on what’s taking place in their communities.

“I am demanding answers and direction from your agency as to the policies and procedures of relocating Haitian refugees to Alabama,” he said. “If you continue to fail to answer questions, we as the citizens of Alabama will demand a Congressional investigation into you and your agency. My neighbors and the entire state of Alabama deserve information.”

U.S. Rep Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) said Vice President Kamala Harris showed the country she’s not fit to be President during an interview on CNN. Harris joined her running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for her first sit down interview since becoming the Democratic nominee for President.

https://x.com/USRepGaryPalmer/status/1829552764873327024

“Last night’s CNN interview with Vice President Harris raised even more questions in the minds of the American people about her fitness to serve as President,” Palmer said. “The only true statement made during the interview was that her values have not changed. This was her way of saying to her base that, regardless of her current moderate stances, she is still the same left-wing San Francisco radical she has always been. She wants them to understand that despite what she says on the campaign trail, you will get the same Kamala Harris you have always known.”

CNN anchor Dana Bash asked Harris about why she has reversed herself on many issues like support for a wall at the U.S. southern border.

“I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed,” Harris said. “I have always believed, and I have worked on it, that the climate crisis is real.”

https://x.com/EricLDaugh/status/1829326603777658894

Palmer said he’s not buying it and believes she would govern as a far left Progressive Democrat.

“If elected, Harris will keep the same policies that made gas prices higher, groceries too expensive, house prices unaffordable, allowed transgender boys to play in women’s sports, and made our border unsecure. She has not changed, but the American people need a change.”

An illegal alien is currently being held in the St. Clair County Jail on a $216,000 bond after his arrest Monday for alleged child sex trafficking. Enoc Velazquez-Bravo, a 32-year-old from Mexico, was arrested during a traffic stop on Aug. 26 at approximately 1 a.m. along I-59 near the 148 mile marker in St. Clair County.

Argo Police Department Cpl. Cason Davis said Velazquez-Bravo resides in Kentucky and is being charged with first-degree human trafficking, facilitating the travel of a child for an unlawful sex act, traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act, electronic solicitation of a child, and forgery.

The arrest is just the latest incident that highlights how the continuing crisis at the southern border has an impact on states like Alabama. Earlier this week, the House Judiciary Committee released a report about a brutal illegal immigrant crime story in Prattville. The Committee blamed the Biden-Harris administration for failing to prevent criminal aliens from entering the U.S.

The Argo Police Department is working with several local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies who are currently investigating the case.

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, is underscoring the Biden-Harris Administration’s role in a situation involving an illegal alien from Honduras brutally assaulting a teenage girl in a Prattville restaurant bathroom.

https://x.com/JudiciaryGOP/status/1828881277048561871

Grevi Geovanni Rivera Zavala, an illegal alien from Honduras, assaulted a teenage girl inside a restaurant on Cobbs Ford Road in Prattville, Alabama, in May 2023.

Moore (R-Enterprise) shared a new report released by the House Judiciary Committee that outlines how the crime against the Prattville teen could have been prevented if it were not for the current border crisis.

RELATED: Illegal immigrant in Alabama arrested, charged with first degree rape of teen

The report specifically points the finger at the Biden-Harris administration for failing to prevent Zavala from entering the U.S. as a “gotaway.”

“The Committee’s review of Rivera Zavala’s A-file reveals that, on November 29, 2021,
Border Patrol encountered Rivera Zavala in Eagle Pass, Texas, and subsequently expelled him to Mexico pursuant to Title 42 authority. According to an ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations summary contained in his A-File, Rivera Zavala later entered the United States at an unknown time and place, presumably as a ‘gotaway,'” the report says.

The committee emphasized in the report that the president’s policies will only lead to more similar cases.

“The disastrous immigration policies of the Biden-Harris Administration have had real world consequences for American citizens,” the committee concluded in the report. “The effects of those policies will be felt for years to come, with criminal aliens in American neighborhoods harming families and hurting public safety across the country. Rivera Zavala’s victim suffered as a result of the Biden-Harris Administration’s open-borders policies incentivized him to cross the border and allowed him to illegally enter the country. Tragically, Rivera Zavala’s victim is not criminal illegal aliens’ only victim.”

Rivera-Zavala pleaded guilty to second-degree rape and was sentenced to 10-year in prison. After his sentence is completed, He then will be released into the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and deported.

“Thanks to the reprehensible policies of the Biden-Harris Administration, every town is a border town,” Moore said. “Even Prattville, Alabama.”
