Strong: Southern border situation ‘unacceptable’

U.S. Rep. Dale Strong’s first visit to the southern border was “informational and concerning.”

Strong (R-Huntsville) visited the border in the El Paso, Texas, area last month with a dozen other legislators to see the situation first hand.

“Just as soon as we arrived, we had a lot of cars that were entering from Mexico to the United States and the first thing to happen a vehicle comes in, we had to delay our briefing, this car came in and had 70 pounds of cocaine just within a matter of minutes after arriving,” he said.

Strong said one of his major concerns was “how many people are being brought to the United States and the way that they’re getting here.”

He noted some examples.

“We saw where a 3- and a 4-year-old were brought to a 15-foot fence and then just dropped, he said. “We had two people that tried to scale a fence that fell off and both are in critical condition.”

The Congressman also discussed a flight he took along the border during his trip.

“As we flew over and saw like 50 acres that had additional border wall that was there that could have been installed but the contract was stopped,” he said. “This was frustrating to watch as tax payers dollars are being wasted.”

Strong called what is happening at the border “unacceptable.”
