As President Donald Trump’s legal proceedings continue to run their course, the Department of Justice has been seeking to enforce a gag order on the Republican front runner for months now. The injunction would effectively ban Trump from speaking about the FBI’s surprise 2022 raid on Mar-a-lago, his Florida estate.

Opponents of the gag order believe it to be unconstitutional, unclear, and no more than an attempt by the Biden Administration to silence Trump in an election year.

Today, attorney generals from twenty five states, including Alabama’s Steve Marshall, came together to issue a joint letter addressed to a Florida district court demanding that the gag order request be denied.

“President Biden’s attempt to use courts to stop his political rival from criticizing Biden’s DOJ is a stunning assault on First Amendment freedoms,” said Marshall. “The American people deserve to hear from the presumptive Republican nominee for President of the United States on issues facing our country, including the Biden Administration’s possible misuse of law enforcement to target his political rivals. Biden’s requested gag order is a desperate and shocking attempt to silence Trump and skew the election.”

“Biden’s Department of Justice is engaged in an unprecedented assault on Trump’s First Amendment rights and liberties, and we will continue to hold the line against this radical political prosecution.”

Iowa, Florida, and West Virginia co-led the brief. They were joined by Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.
