State Rep. Matt Simpson (R-Daphne) was taken to the hospital Tuesday after falling ill.

State Rep. Joe Lovvorn (R-Auburn) announced Simpson’s hospitalization on the House floor during a point of personal privilege and led the chamber in prayer.

Simpson’s wife updated the public on her Facebook page Tuesday afternoon, saying “doctors think it’s likely his appendix.”

“Well. Since the media has absolutely no respect for privacy and doesn’t even allow me time to communicate with my kids first, I guess I will go ahead and address it,” Mrs. Simpson wrote.

“Matt had onset pain on the drive up to Montgomery this morning. The doctors think it’s likely his appendix. He will be fine. Prayers are welcomed. If you see my children, please don’t mention it until I can communicate with them.”

The House is currently in recess and expected to return this afternoon.
