After more than a decade of public service, State Rep. Corey Harbison ( R-Good Hope) has officially stepped down from his seat representing Alabama House District 12.

Harbison submitted his resignation to Alabama Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter on April 15. His formal letter, dated the same day, was a simple one-sentence statement confirming his departure.

The move came as no surprise to constituents or colleagues. In March, Harbison told The Cullman Tribune that he planned to resign by mid-April to focus more on his family. During his interview with the publication, Harbison emphasized that his primary commitment was to his role as a husband and father. He stated that while he appreciated the opportunities that came with public office, the most important title he held was “daddy.”

Harbison previously served two terms as the mayor of Good Hope before being elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2014.

At the time of his resignation, a date had not yet been announced for the special election to fill the now-vacant House District 12 seat.
