BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — “You talk about Alabama power? That’s Deontay Wilder; he’s got real Alabama power.”

Tuscaloosa native and current WBC Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will defend his title for the first time June 13th in Bartow Arena. This week, the video above depicting some of his training in preparation for the fight was released by Alabama Power’s Alabama NewsCenter.

Defending his title, the undefeated (33-0) Wilder will take on Texan Eric Molina (23-2), an aggressive fighter who has won his last five bouts.

The fight will be the first major boxing event in Alabama history, and many leaders in Birmingham are expecting it to bring a significant economic impact to the region.

“I can’t wait to see all those bodies in those seats, roaring and cheering for the hometown guy, Deontay Wilder. It’s going to be wonderful,” Wilder said at the end of the video. “That’s always been my deal: bring the world to Alabama.”
