On Wednesday, Alabama Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter appointed State Rep. Troy Stubbs (R-Wetumpka) to Vice Chairman of the House Committee on County and Municipal Government.

The position was previously held by Debbie Wood, who resigned her seat earlier this summer.

“Rep. Stubbs has served on the House Committee on County and Municipal Government for the last several years, and his previous experience on the Elmore County Commission makes him the obvious choice to step into the role of vice chairman,” Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) said.

“The work of this committee directly impacts the success of Alabama’s local governments, and I have full confidence that Rep. Stubbs will continue to fight for commonsense conservative policies that help counties and municipalities better serve citizens.”

Prior to joining the Alabama House of Representatives, Stubbs served six years on the Elmore County Commission.

“I am honored that Speaker Ledbetter has appointed me to serve in this important capacity,” said Rep. Stubbs.

“As vice chairman, I will work to ensure that this committee’s actions reflect House leadership’s commitment to equipping local governments with the necessary tools to best serve Alabamians. With many counties and municipalities experiencing tremendous growth in both population and economic development, I look forward to leveraging this new role to support and build on that success.”

The 2026 legislative session begins on January 13.
